I am mystery reader in DD2’s class today, then I have lunch duty. DH and I are planning to go out tonight if our sitter doesn’t cancel. Tomorrow we are supposed to have soccer, but the weather has been and looks awful. Then DD1 has a party on Sunday.

Again, so much saturday.
Tonight I have the kids while DH is playing cards. That's my trade off for him doing most of the heavy lifting tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have a long bike ride because -- two more weekends before my 70.3!! Meanwhile, DH is taking DD to soccer, followed by gymnastics. Then I'll be home in time for DS' fall carnival. Sunday I'll have a run and swim, and then we'll have a kid's birthday party in the afternoon for two boys from DD's school (they are closer to DS' age and were in class with DS, so both our kids will go).
I think I need to order groceries online today...it doesn't look like we'll have much down time.
We also definitely need to put up halloween decorations. DS is so mad that they aren't up yet!
mustardseed2007, no Halloween or fall decorations here. Whoops.
I am glad this week is over with. My co-worker is very unhappy and thinks the whole department stabbed her in the back basically when they came to tell me about the micromanaging. But she was commenting on what someone printed, and correcting 1 letter spelling (written by a 60 year old woman i.e. grown-up and trained well) on an informal note that only 4 people see. Proofreading a newsletter that goes out to everyone in the community sure. Correcting spelling on a note on a desk basically is WTF.
Tomorrow is soccer games in the morning. I need to text the mom about the playdate because the kid asked my kid about it again. DS and DH go to the cub scout camp out where it is high 53 and low 43, so they will freeze their butts off. Glad it isn't me this year!
DD and I depart this afternoon for Chicago. Trying to decide what to do tomorrow afternoon/evening - Lincoln Park Zoo, Nature Museum, Water Tower, Millennium Park, Bean - the only definite agenda item is the American Girl store and some general shopping, plus dinner somewhere.
I’m really excited and love that she loves family and cousins and travel. She’s this amazing kid when she isn’t being a train wreck.
Sunday afternoon when we land I’m working on my mom’s condo and picking up the grocery order. DS has been a sad mess with me being gone for the weekend so probably doing something with him. Oldest also wants me to watch a movie with her so trying for that too.
xctsclrx, Dh has his MBA. He makes about 2 times more than he did when he was an engineer. Of course his salary as an engineer would have gone up but not that much, and his salary has gone up since his MBA which was 9 years ago now.
I vote do it. He did top tier full time and got a great offer. But I think it is swingable to do a tier 2 school part time and still get good jobs, just might be a few less recruiters at the school and slightly lower offers. But now he has been out in the field more he is working with MBA's from all over. I don't know that I would drop down to a super low level school on this degree though just for the quality of instructors and network.
A lot of people used it to move up in their current job/ company anyway, so that was probably super helpful for them. He found it a bit more difficult basically entering as an entirely new field to him.

Today is my Friday off. It was the school walk-a-thon this morning (the only fundraiser the school does, thank goodness) and it's a half day (no PM), so we're home now. In a little while we'll be off to the dentist and then chiropractor for appointments.
Tomorrow morning is open, so I might go to the small farmer's market in the downtown area of our town. Then DS has a football game at noon, and then we have to leave immediately after the game to take our camping trailer to storage (about 1.5 hours away, but it's on family property, so it's free).
Sunday is church and then no plans in the afternoon (besides grocery shopping and some cleaning that I need to do).
ETA: Random - My sister got tickets for her, me, and one of our cousins to go to a New Kids on the Block concert in June 2019. I'm so excited! (I have to pay her back for mine, but she was the designated orderer.)
xctsclrx, what do you? What's your existing degree in? Where would you get it? What would your expectation be from getting it in terms of career and salary enhancement?
xctsclrx, I don't think there's a blanket yes or no answer in regards to an MBA. There are a lot of cases where getting one makes sense. There are a lot of cases where people get them for the sake of getting them without thinking through the reasons they're getting them and how they plan to benefit from them.
Fffc I almost forgot to get the kids flu shot today. I drove past the office and was like oh no. Turned around and took them in. This was the first they heard of it . They are not amused.
Taking Ds shopping for his dress uniform for his club today. He is going to the national convention in 2 weeks. He needs slacks and dress shirt and shoes. He is a horrible shopper, so t&p needed.
Tomorrow, nothing. I think I will go to church and come home and make a big pot of spaghetti and meatballs and have some wine.
Sunday we have a wedding at 11 am? Weird time. Then may he go a music festival if we have time.
I find MBAs to be a big turn off for IC roles. Most that I encounter don’t seem a good fit for the roles they apply for, based on their resume and what they emphasize in interviews. So to me, it really really depends on what you would do with it, and how much you can let go of having done it when you find yourself in a position to need or want an IC role despite your MBA.
This is the hardest part of hiring for me - I tend to value a solid fit (on intangibles like would they seem happy with the role, get along well with the team) over additional education. But I am only hiring at VP level and below. I think there’s value for strategic roles. But it depends on the industry.

I got to make dinner in my kitchen last night! They installed all of the appliances, the sink and faucet so I have running water and appliances that work. I’m so excited. However, everything is still in the garage and needs to be put back so it’s not perfect but it’s getting there. I’ll likely be spending any open time I have this weekend doing that.
Tonight we have a Pumpkin Fest at DSs school. Tomorrow, DD has a XC meet but thankfully she runs at 9 so we don’t have to stick around forever. The middle of the day is mostly open and then DD is going out with friends.
Sunday I’ll get a run in and then SIL and her family and MIL are coming for a late breakfast and the pumpkin patch. I was hoping for a lazy Sunday but MIL lives 6 hours away so it’s not like I could say no.
Today I am working from home since DD had a dermatologist appointment. There are no plans this evening, which is good because I am exhausted.
Tomorrow, DS1 has a soccer game at 9 am. Then we'll be heading to a local pumpkin patch with my family. We'll probably catch some dinner with them too.
On Sunday, there will be grocery shopping and cleaning the house.
I’m trying to decide whether to be That Parent. A little girl DD really likes has a birthday party tomorrow at Painting with a Twist. It’s in the middle of the football game DD is supposed to cheer at. So we rsvp’d no. Now the game may be rained out. Would it be bad to say we might come if her game is rained out? I hate “maybe” rsvps, but DD was sad not to get to celebrate with her friend.
That’s all we have planned. It’s the kids’ fall break so they are off today and Monday. I took today off. We got the kids’ haircuts done this morning, and DS is going to get a flu shot in about half an hour. I would like to plan some fun stuff, but the weather is supposed to suck all weekend. Blah.

I've been off for most of the week for fall break for DS and to give mil some time off. Kids are with her today so I can do a rummage with a friend. she's holding down the fort right now while DH and I are at the eye dr. I haven't had my eyes checked in 9 years and it's been 8 for him. This afternoon we are going to the bank to see what kind of rate we can get on an auto loan. Tonight we are picking up our race packets for a 5k we are doing tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow is the 5k then going to look at and test drive a couple cars I found. My mom will watch the kids while we do that.
Sunday DH wants to go to a civil war festival and thats just not my cup of tea. I'll probably end up going but dont want too. I'd rather stay back and go to the gym, grocery shop and do laundry Haha. We shall see!
k3am, right now I am a logistics analyst with a major in industrial and systems engineering.
If I want to go to any sort of leadership role at my current company I would either have to wait a long time 5-10ish years depending on how fast the turnover is. I also feel as if I am at a disadvantage because I am 1 of 4 maybe 5 women and I am not located with management. My project does not have any women in leadership and I think it is because of the all boys club at HQ (but can't prove it). Changing companies or even projects would help that, and I plan to when I get my magical 5 years of experience. That will be in January, and I might be starting my search in the later half of 2019. Only other thing that is holding me back is the good will I have built here and the flexibility, I also have a ton of leave saved for doctor's appointments and sick kiddos.
Doctor appointment this afternoon for an IUD. It will be strange not to take a pill every morning after so many years of doing it.
The weekend DS has his first drop off part ever, and I am pumped. Two hours of Saturday freedom. Then Sunday we are supposed to be hosting a giant barbecue, but I am thinking it will be inside our house, so I need to clean.

This weekend is my 4 day weekend. Today was DS's field trip to the pumpkin patch and I chaperoned. I brought home apple cider which is my favorite part of fall. Tomorrow morning I'll go to yoga with coworkers. Either Saturday afternoon or Sunday we'll drive to my parents house to pick out pumpkins. DH will have to go into work at some point and I'm hoping we can do something as a family one afternoon.

When I plan for parties I always plan for extra in case siblings show up or something happens last minute and someone else comes that I didn't expect. The only problem with painting with a twist, though, is they have to have the right number of canvases and stuff out. So that DOES make it trickier and I'm not sure how they charge for those things. I would think if the canvas isn't used you're not charged but I don't know??

I’m at a knitting retreat in the Canadian Rockies. Really just visiting with old friends from the two winters I spent in Edmonton.
It’s been a good time. Delicious potluck, spinners and dyers selling their wares, sophomoric pranks, and a supportive community for people who are going through illness or loss or some other life stress.
Hadn’t seen these ladies in 7 years ... I’m so glad I managed to carve out time for this!

We have our routine of activities - dance, piano, hockey and religious studies on Saturday, then hockey on Sunday. BIL and SIL are supposed to be here this weekend, but as per usual, we have no idea when they'd show up or what their plans are...and this is after multiple texts and a phone conversation to try to sort it out. I should be used to it now, but I'm not and it stresses me out.
DD went to the party. DH took DS to a trampoline park, which he loves. Then we went to lunch with MIL and DD reminded us that we had all agreed the kids could sleep over with Grandma tonight.
DH and I settled in to TiVo after deciding against a movie, just in time to get a text that DD had puked all over the floor. I went running over there, to be waved off. DD and MIL think the pizza DD ate for lunch just upset her tummy. No fever, and she was happily eating saltines when I left her there, reluctantly.
And DD and DS told MIL they are sleeping in a guest bedroom because Grandma snores like a freight train. Indeed, while on vacation I could hear MIL snoring when she was in her room with the door closed. The kids don’t lie. But now I’m worried about DD puking in the night and being alone. 😥
So that was a different wedding. I am rushing around on a Sunday morning when I should be relaxing and drinking coffee to make it to an 11 AM wedding, outside, 50 degrees and raining. Shouldn't have bothered, because the bride was 1 HOUR late. Did I mention the temp and the rain? The entire ceremony was 5 minutes after an hour wait. A drone was flying over the entire time I assume taping which sounded like we were getting attacked by a swarm of bees and drowned out the music.
By the time we get to the reception everyone is starving, because it is now 2:00 because they are taking pictures for an hour. The kids and I ate, watched them walk in clapped and left. Oh and the mood music for the reception was nothing recorded before 1975, the couple were in their 20s. Plus no booze to put up with this nonsense, I am out. My MIL mentioned dancing, um no.
