I'm still pretty new to crochet, and don't really have anyone to crochet for. I've done one lap blanket to donate to the local hospice, and I'll probably just keep doing projects to donate.
So, that said- where can I find the best deals on yarn? Sticking to the 50% off coupons at Michael's/Joanne's? Anywhere else I should look?

It depends on the yarn. I only really crochet big fluffy blankets (I get Bernat blanket yarn from Joanne's using the 50 to 60% off coupons).
I've recently started knitting socks as well, and have found great deals on Amazon, and yarn.com, especially by looking through their discount section. The local Joann's doesn't carry the sock yarn, or I'd get it there with my coupons.

I get my cheap yarn from knitpicks these days. I have sensory issues and the cheap stuff at box stores (Michaels, Joann, etc) is too squeaky for me. Knitpicks has a lovely acrylic that I really enjoy using called Brava. It's $2.49 for 100g, which is about 220 yards of worsted weight.

Do you use the worsted or sport?
I get the worsted, unless I have a sport weight project. I *rarely* have a sport weight project. Like, once in three years.
