I definitely did not sign up for Ironman #3. :-) I've started running with a power meter, which I think is really interesting so far, and I'm hoping that it ends up being as beneficial for my running as I think it's going to be. It's definitely a learning process though.
My coach made a comment last week about me losing fitness from the 70.3, and I kind of freaked out. I don't want to lose fitness!! He was so patient in explaining that yes, I do need to lose it, because that's where real gains come from. It's all very interesting.
- How are you approaching what is normally everyone's off-season, both physically and mentally? I'm not really paying attention to the fact that it's normally offseason right now. I think having the Philly half and Kiawah coming up is part of that. How can it be offseason when I have two races coming up? But I'm also not really in the 'I'm training for an IM" mindset either. I know that I am, but my focus right now is more on building a strong base.
Physically, I'm doing strength 2x a week, which is new for me. I'm also in PT for a few different things. So I'm just trying to take care of my body now so it takes care of me later.
- We watched the Kona coverage "together" this weekend. What are your takeaways from this year's world Ironman championship? I need a better fit on to my bike. Lucy Charles is my swimming hero. I don't think I ever want to do Kona. :-)
- What snacks do you have in your pantry right now? I'm really not a big snack person. I've got granola bars, goldfish, a couple boxes of Kind bars... Oh, and popcorn.
emilyj - You have to bring yourself (and fitness) down a little after a big event you peaked for. Your body can't hold the peak forever. After Track Nats this year I felt horrid for about a month. My legs finally got their snap back after a few easy weeks. It makes building up and gaining fitness again easier. At least for most cyclists you can hold a peak only about 2 weeks.
@vtcupcake What made you decide on the P2s? Have you looked at the Garmin Vector 3s? (Curiosity only as I may be in the market for a new pedal based PM next year.)
