Just got a message from the allergy doctor. Apparently garlic also came back positive. Wtf? That would explain why sometimes she reacts and sometimes not. The doctor wants to talk to me about it. Blah. What can this poor girl eat that doesn't have milk or garlic?
OB appointment this afternoon, where I'll find out if I passed or failed the 1 hour glucose test (result was 135) and get the official results of my growth scan from last week. Then we're meeting with the hospital's Maternity Care Coordinator to go over hospital stuff. I'm pretty sure it's stuff like pre-registeration, birth certificate paperwork, birthing classes, and whatnot.
After today, hoping for a boring week. My mom is planning to mail out my baby shower invites, once I drop the rest of the addresses off for her (which I'm doing today). I'm pretty excited, since up until a week ago I wasn't expecting to have a baby shower.
I'm also considering splurging on a matching mommy & me robe/swaddle set from Milkmaid Goods, because they're having a 20% off pink items sale today. H told me to go for it, but even at 20% it still seems like a lot of money for something that's a want rather than a need.
estrellita - Oh no! Poor A! Garlic is a tough one, since people never think about seasonings being an allergy issue.
Plus it's SO common. It's in everything! Ugh. I'm really hoping they tell me it's mild and just not to go overboard on it or something. Wishful thinking I'm sure. Doctor didn't answer when I called back so hopefully I can talk to her on my next break!
katespade, I was looking into that as well! I had a pretty robe to wear at the hospital last time and it made me feel much more pulled together when people came to visit.

estrellita- ((Hugs)). I hope you guys get answers soon. And I hope A grows out of her allergies.
katespade- I hope you get good news that you passed your glucose test!
suzv- that’s very frustrating 🙁. Sorry to hear J is sick too...I hope he feels better for his bday! He is seriously so adorable!
Boys are doing mostly better but still sick. They keep running around though and getting all worked up and then L’s breathing is super bad and C is a coughing mess. At least they are both napping today!
We did bagels and groceries this morning, walked around our neighborhood looking at the Halloween decorations. I was able to shower, clean windows, dust downstairs, hang some picture decor, and grill chicken during nap...feels good to be productive!
Talked to the allergy doctor. She said since A has had stuff with garlic before that we can try things with garlic and keep an eye on her. She may either just be intolerant or growing out of an allergy. I'm hoping it's the same with the milk. I think we're going to avoid both as much as possible but maybe try a little garlic here and there and see what happens. I don't want to push it and risk a bad reaction but I also think it's going to be almost impossible to avoid both all the time
suzv - I decided to go for it. It's so much more money than I need to be spending on something like that, but oh well. Plus, if you join their mailing list they'll give you a 10% off code, which you can apply on top of the 20% off sale.
I'm sorry katespade. I also failed the 1 hour with my son. I was pretty upset and nervous, but the three hour was not really that much worse. I brought a really good book to help pass the time more quickly. My lab (LabCorp) also had a private waiting room with a comfy recliner and TV for me to use during the 3 hour so that was a pleasant surprise.
estrellita, sorry about the garlic. That would be a game changer for me as well. I feel like there's garlic in every dinner I make! So frustrating
Nothing out of the ordinary this week. G keeps peeing through his diapers every night, even though we stopped giving him milk before bed. They already seem plenty big (he wears a 5), but I guess I could get a pack of 6's and see if that helps. I don't get it- where is all the pee coming from?!
I identified making kid lunches as my least favorite chore every night. For whatever reason, I hate doing it every.single.day. So, I've been doing meal prep for toddler lunches every Sunday. It's a huge time suck on Sunday but has been a life-saver for our busy weeknights. Every Sunday I have been making up 8 almond butter and jelly sandwiches and freezing them for the kids. B gets one in her lunchbox every day, and G gets one M-W-F. I'll also make two containers for G with whatever leftover meat we have and homemade mac-n-cheese that I sneak pureed cauliflower in. I wash, cut, and portion out fruit so that's grab-n-go too. I make little baggies of popcorn, crackers, whatever for their afternoon snack. Now, it's a breeze to just grab all my pre-packaged components and add in a quick yogurt, cheese stick, crackers etc. I feel a little guilty at all the plastic baggies I'm using doing it this way instead of washing and reusing one container, but it's saved me so much stress I don't care.
estrellita, I'm sorry about the garlic. That is in everything, and honestly, I think that would be harder to avoid than even dairy. Oof.
OB appointment this morning, everything was fine. Got a little comment about my weight (up 20 pounds at almost 20 weeks) but I also explained that I gained the same way last time. We talked a bit about my plans for labor, and she asked my preference on my anesthesiologist, yay. And she prescribed me tessalon perles for my cough, YAS. Because robitussin and cough drops aren't doing crap.
OH, and I'm wearing this peplum maternity shirt that I'm kind of iffy on. E told me this morning that that I look like a princess. ❤ I think I'll keep the shirt, and him.

Blue Moon, I feel you - we are having a string of peeing through the diapers every night. Last night was the first night he didn't in probably a week. He's also in 5s and the other night I sized up to a 6 overnight since I had them on hand and it didn't make a difference. I don't know what the deal is.

pooh8402 I definitely think garlic is harder to avoid because it's a fairly uncommon allergy. Plus a lot of labels just say "spices" and the allergist said the companies don't like to disclose what that means. Although we think if I call as a mom with an allergic child they should hopefully tell me if garlic is one of the "spices". At least milk is a common allergy, plus lots of people don't eat dairy for lots of various reasons, so there's a lot of options for dairy free. But you never hear of people allergic to garlic!
Thanks, everyone. I scheduled my 3 hr for Thursday morning, so I can just get it over and done with. I also scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist on Friday, because I have a mole/freckle (it looks like a mole but it's not raised, so I'm not sure which it's technically considered to be) on my breast that's changed color in the past couple of months. I asked my OB during my appointment yesterday, and she said a color change is definitely worth a derm visit.
This week very quickly went from boring to busy, and I don't like it.

Super frustrated with DC right now.. they keep feeding her things that have milk in them. Wtf?? We've had to ask multiple times if things she's being fed have milk and they have no idea. The director is finally going to get us recipes. I don't get what's so difficult. See what's for the meal. Hmm, this seems like it might have milk or garlic. Maybe ask the cook? Or feed her other parts of the meal we know she can have until you know for sure? I'm having a hard enough time figuring it out for ourselves, I shouldn't have to also do research and remind them multiple times she can't have certain foods. Luckily she hasn't reacted but she could have gotten an upset tummy, gotten itchy, etc without anyone knowing.

That is unacceptable, IMO. I would have been furious if DC fed my milk-allergic kid something with milk in it. I'd raise hell and threaten contacting whoever is in charge of the daycare (the state?) to file a complaint. And I'm usually pretty laid-back about most daycare issues. I'm always afraid of allergic reactions progressing and escalating as well.
In the meantime, can you just send her with your own food for the time being? I get that it's a hassle, but DC has proven themselves untrustworthy in this aspect.

We've basically told them to stop feeding her anything we don't know the ingredients on yet. H has been talking to the director. I'm going to see if they can give me a new allergy sheet.. I originally filled it out saying she could eat things IF they don't have milk (before we found out about the garlic) but I think I'll have to only check things I know 100% don't have milk or garlic but how am I supposed to know for sure? What if he cooks the veggies with spices or butter? I'm assuming not, but I don't know that for sure, you know? Ugh. You'd think they'd be able to figure this out better. Other kids have allergies too so why are they doing this?

estrellita- completely unacceptable. I would escalate this. It’s really not that hard (especially since she can’t be the first kid with an allergy so they should be more used to this kind of stuff). Plain and simple, it’s a safety issue and they should be treating it very seriously.
estrellita Completely unacceptable! I hope it can get resolved quickly.
Me and the girls got our flu shots done this morning. Glad to have that one checked off the list. Plus, I timed it right so when we go back for C's next well check it will be time for her second dose.
estrellita - I thought of you this morning as I was sitting in the lobby of the lab and heard a woman say that she's allergic to garlic! I'm so sorry that DC is giving you a hard time about it. I would absolutely escalate it as high as you need to go, even if that means reporting them to the state (or whoever they maintain their licensing with). Completely unacceptable!
I survived the 3 hour test! Which was really a 4.5 hour test, because I wasn't allowed to have the drink until they confirmed that I passed the fasting draw, and that took 1.5 hours. I came home, ate my weight in pizza, and now we wait for results.
I have our friend’s two boys today. Everyone must have missed each other because they are all being super hyper. We went on a long walk (gone about 1.5 hours) to look at Halloween decorations. They all walked most of the way and still had a ton of energy. Nap time now and no one is napping well.
Not sure what we will do after nap, probably play outside a little. We have about 4 more hours to go til they get picked up so we will need to do something to keep them entertained without destroying the house 🤣
Fun day though! Lucky that we get to have this time with them! It’s fun seeing their friendships grow and how much they care for each other!

Thanks everyone for not making me feel crazy about it. I know her allergies are mild, especially compared to other kids, but they really need to take it seriously, especially since we've told them numerous times, talked about Benadryl and the epipen we are giving them (getting a second in the mail today), what to watch for, etc. We even gave them sheets listing what else milk could be listed as, what might have milk in it, etc with the sheet about how to deal with a reaction and what to look for in terms of severity.
I have a tendency to downplay things so maybe I wasn't clear enough, but still. That's not an excuse for them to keep feeding this stuff to her. I wonder if it's lack of knowledge. When I told the teachers about the milk allergy, one asked if it was just milk or all dairy. Which I suppose in the case of an intolerance might be a valid question. But if she's allergic to cow's milk, wouldn't it be common sense that she's also allergic to things with milk in it? Ugh.
