I'm in the market for a treadmill. Anyone care to recommend theirs or one they like?
I'm 39 and my knees aren't as happy with my decades of running as they used to be, so a treadmill that isn't too tough on joints would be amazing.
I typically hate treadmill running and only run outside in 0-30 degree weather here when marathon training. I canceled my gym membership now that we have space for a treadmill for those days when I don't want to run in the dark or cold.
When we bought ours, I went to stores in workout clothes and ran on all the different brands. I basically did my whole workout switching between treadmills in the store. I liked the feel of Precor and Landice. We bought a Precor, because at the time/the models we were looking at, I didn't like the speed adjustment controls/responsiveness on the Landice.
YMMV on all of that, the only way to really know is to run on them.

Same. (And then decided the only one we both liked enough to be worth dedicating the space to was a landice, and we didn't ACTUALLY want to spend that much money, so we said f it and got a rowing machine instead)
We hit up a dicks and a dedicated fitness equipment store to make sure we saw all the brands.

My advice is slightly different. I've had two treadmills, and I got both free or cheap from people who didn't want them anymore. Both were in good shape, and I saved a lot of money. If budget is an issue, I would ask around and see if any friends or neighbors are looking to get rid of one. I might've been more choosy if I used the TM regularly, but I mostly use it when my husband is out of town or otherwise away (because I can't leave my son alone while I go for a run).

Yeah...so this makes no sense, but I also agree with this. My stance on expensive shit is either get the absolute cheapest thing you can find that will do the job, or get something you really like and dollars be damned.
So I was all set to go from a free treadmill from a friend of a friend to a landice. There is no point in the inbetween in my mind. The freebie worked fine, it was just super loud, my husband couldn't use it and it sucked for intervals. But getting in 5 miles when H had to work late? Fine.
