DH would like to go on a retreat or like the men's equivalent to a spa weekend? He wouldn't mind liberal religious but no to evangelical types. Any ideas? Anyone been on one male or female? I know some people have done a yoga retreat, but he's not into yoga. It seems like we have missed most of them. Like the one through our church we were busy that weekend. Or even family camps, but we have missed those too (Memorial and Labor day).
Maybe I should start smaller and enroll him in something like a meditation class?
I can recommend Retreat Houses run by Catholic orders. Jesuits do a great job at being spiritual and very liberal. I’d add Franciscans and even some sister orders. My BIL does a men’s retreat with generally the same group of men each year at a Retreat House location. You do a day-long or overnight.
Several of these Retreat Houses are beautiful estates donated to religious orders in lovely areas. I found one online at the Jersey Shore when I did a pre-canna (marriage) before my wedding. You can look online, there are many options. They run independently, offer topics and “men’s retreats” often. Not expensive either.

I second this. I did a weekend (Friday dinner through Sunday lunch) silent retreat at a Jesuit retreat center outside of Chicago. My mom, dad, and brother have done it too (at the center outside of St. Louis). There were 8 talks and other events (mass, etc) but nothing was required other than silence. Most of the weekends are single sex. Not everyone at the retreat was Catholic. All food prepared for us. The Jesuits accept everyone wherever they are on their faith journey.
I have to say it was wonderful, glorious. Taking the time just to stop rushing and just relax and think. I plan on going again as have everyone I know who have gone on a Jesuit retreat.
