I only have one grocery store that offers pick up (no delivery in my area) but that is 20 mins out of my way and lately I’ve been shopping at Aldi bc it is so cheap.
Today I used Instacart for the first time. I placed my order Thurs night and selected 11am-12pm, and planned my day around that. I got a text at 8:45 am stating it would be late. That’s weird that they knew that early but ok, It gave me a timeframe between 12:15-12:45. Ok, so I changed my plans and booked it out of there to hurry and and get my 2 kids out to run an errand and get back to the house before I would need to leave to pick up My other son..
Then the shopper is communicating w me and asking questions which I appreciate. She said she would be there in 10-15 mins at 12:10. The store she was at is 10 mins away.
I waited till 12:45 but really I needed to leave by 12:30. She texted me at 12:55, and left it on the door step like I asked, which was ok since my husband was on his way home and could put the cold stuff away.
It was a $132 order. There was a 5.99 delivery fee, 6.59 service fee and when I ordered it, it had a default $5 tip.
First, do you tip on the percentage of the order? I can add more if that’s what I’m supposed to do, but the whole thing just seemed stressful trying to change my day around unsuccessfully to be there for the order. I JUST got home from the other errands and kid pickups at 3:30 so missing it in the future isn’t going to work for me.
How much do you tip for something like this and what would you tip given how it went?
I tried Instacart once and didn’t care for it. She was on time. However she texted me 8 million questions while I was at the hair salon getting the kids their hair cuts. It was too much interaction for me. Except for the fact I could be in two places at once it wasn’t worth it.
It was a long time ago so I am sorry I dont remember what I tipped or if I tipped. Not sure if tip might have been included way back then.
We use Pea Pod for delivery. We have used Fresh Direct before. I know Cosco does some delivery and I am wondering about Amazon and the Whole Foods and how that works out. But yeah for answering 20 text messages I felt I should just have gone to Aldi which ironically is right next to the hair salon.
I’ve never used instacart, but I think with a delivery fee and service fee, why do you need to tip? I do Whole Foods delivery through amazon prime and there’s no delivery or service fee - it defaults to a 10% tip and I leave that.
