The only holiday food I am worrying about so far is the skeleton veggie tray I offered to make for Kid1’s preschool class. It is going to be a total Pinterest fail, lol. My mom makes Thanksgiving dinner and I may make a dessert or appetizer. FIL is outsourcing the meal for DH’s family Thanksgiving besides my sweet potatoes and pumpkin and mince pies and my mom’s green beans and apple pie. Christmas is too far off for me to think about food.
I think Thanksgiving may just be dh and me with the inlaws coming by for dessert after they visit Grandma and I'm ok with this because it means we can branch out.
So far I'm thinking about doing a Cajun spiced turkey breast. That idea just randomly popped in my head yesterday.
I need to double check with dh if he wants to smoke something or not. It's really hit or miss with the weather here on Thanksgiving, so sometimes sitting out with the smoker is enjoyable and sometimes it's not.
H and I are staying home for Thanksgiving this year, so I'm trying to think of things to make for the two of us. I want traditional but I'm willing to stray from my family recipes since some of them are not anything special. Like, I need a recipe for stuffing. Anyone have a good one? Particularly with sausage in it, but I'd be happy with anything tasty. My family has pretty much always just used Stovetop or another generic brand and it's never that great (obviously) so I'm thinking here is my chance for delicious stuffing.
Also a good veggie side that is not green bean casserole is something else I am looking for. I am thinking I'll roast a small turkey and then do a few sides and just cut the recipe in 1/4 or 1/2. I'm ok with leftovers but I don't want to go too nuts with only 2 of us.
I’d like to make a really nice cheese board for thanksgiving. And maybe a caramel apple cheesecake for dessert.
Not sure who’s coming by. My brother got engaged earlier his year and he’s spending more time with his future ILs and even moved to be closer to them, an hour away. He said maybe they could come by for appetizers early but they’re having dinner with FSIL’s family.

I like to do a mix of roasted root vegetables: butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, shallots, turnip... Just drizzle with olive oil and add some fresh rosemary.
I’m going to my in laws (like every year) and my MIL is a fantastic cook and makes a ton of delicious stuff and I can’t flipping wait. The only thing I’m making is my grandmother’s filling- which is basically just potatoes, bread, chicken stock, celery and onions, and like 5 sticks of butter. It sounds and looks gross, but it’s the first empty pot on the table.

We have reservations for lunch, and then will have an later afternoon drop in party with pie, and cocktails for friends to come by either to escape their families, or give their families something to do. I will be making or buying Chocolate pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, and a friend usually brings a chess pie. I need to come up with a cocktail. We did mules last year, but I want to do something different this year. Any suggestions? Bonus, if mix can be made ahead.

Yum! I love all of those so this sounds like a good simple idea! I may even do a couple of veggies so maybe something basic like this plus a recipe would be a good balance.

I’m making individual desserts for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie, apple pie and mini cheesecakes. Pumpkin will be the typical pumpkin pie, just made in a muffin pan. Haven’t figured out my apple pie filling yet. Making those in half pint mason jars. Haven’t decided on what to do for the mini cheesecakes.

We're going to my parents for Thanksgiving so I'm mostly bringing things i can make ahead of time. Probably a pumpkin pie or cheesecake and an apple pie of redheadbaker 's apple butter cheesecake. Probably some mac & cheese I can put in a Crock-Pot and then make some bourbon glazed carrots once I get there.

Just here for the inspiration. Looks like it may be just the two of us for holidays this year as I’m trying to avoid my family and hers lives out of state. We don’t really have a plan yet.
The secret to great stuffing at our family holiday gathering is using Sage Sausage, mix in a bit of extra Fennel seed, mix in minced garlic with onion and celery saute and drum roll.... dried cherries. It is perfection. It is the most requested dish and goes first at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Every year, H and I spend thanksgiving at a cabin three hours away, without other people. It’s glorious.
I figured out this year’s menu already.
Turkey porchetta. This is a good recipe for two because the work is done a few days in advance, and the leftovers hold up really well for a while. It’s a little tricky the first time you do it to cut and roll the breast correctly, but if you go slowly, it isn’t bad.
Candied Brussels sprouts. I don’t have a recipe but I cook down apple cider, and add a big pat of butter. Then I pour that over Brussels that I’ve sautéed in a cast iron skillet, and add crushed hazelnuts.
Cranberry sauce.
For dessert, this pumpkin bread pudding is easy and delicious. I halve the recipe.
We are likely having neighbors and my MIL for Thanksgiving dinner this year. I'm not doing turkey, only because I got turkey earlier this month for Canadian Thanksgiving, and I find that sufficient.
Right now, my menu is going to be prime rib, obscene mashed potatoes (where the potatoes are cooked in cream rather than water), gravy, sauteed mushrooms, either asparagus or green beans (depending upon what looks good at the store), homemade rolls. Dessert and apps to be decided later. I'm leaning towards pumpkin gingerbread with whipped cream for dessert but DH may object.
I like having the same food every year. My aunt and uncle will be away- this is the first year I can remember that they went be hosting. My mom is instead.
I always make corn casserole and I might to caramel apple slices.

I’m making a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for just 4 of us. Thank God it is not an in-laws’ year because my MIL’s meal is awful. I know it’s what you grow up with, because Hs siblings go on and on about how great her gravy is, but the stuff is rank.
Re: stuffing, I don’t really follow a recipe, but I cut a loaf of cheapish Italian bread into cubes and leave out overnight. Inthe morning, I mix with diced celery, an egg, poultry seasoning and enough chicken broth to get it nice and moist. It goes in the slow cooker until dinner time.

Sides: I might try ESF's candied brussel sprouts. Not a sprouts fan myself, but my mom and H both love them, and holidays are the only time they get to have them. Also mashed potatoes, obvs. Plain corn or carrots (for my non-vegetable-eating brother). Maybe creamed spinach. Plus sausage, sage and apple stuffing.
