One of DD's friends mom's moved to our area about a year ago - her husband's job was relocating him and her company agreed to let her work remotely. She is having some huge issues and from the sounds of it, will be looking for a new company, but her network here is non-existent. She hasn't had to update her resume in close to 20 years, and she has no LinkedIn presence.
I know nothing about how she works, the quality of her work, or whether she's a good employee - I do know that she has a creepy passion for what she does. I have another friend who works in the same industry, but not the same specialty. Is that an introduction you'd make? I'm not even sure if it would go anywhere - maybe she'd have an opening she could refer her to at her company. Or maybe just some leads on recruiting or resume services that are industry specific.
Based on a few prior experiences with employees we hired that were highly recommended by former colleagues (that we may not have otherwise hired), I'm hesitant to get involved. But also feel bad not getting involved.
Same as previous posters - I'm just open with the person I'm talking to about how I don't know anything about the person's background beyond what they've told me.
I made a mom friend who moved here from the Bay area recently (all of my new San Diego neighbors have recently relocated from the Bay area!) and she's sort of in my industry. I made a lot of introductions for her. She still hasn't landed anywhere yet, but I didn't mind making the intros since I do know that she's a nice person.
Yes, I totally get it k3am - I would make the same trade I fly to San Jose about once a week and often see the same people "commuting." It's such a short flight.
k3am, yes, it couldn't be easier to go from the San Diego airport to the San Jose airport. They even have fancy nursing rooms and everything that were useful when I was pumping. And I love that I can walk to the rental cars!
