Fiction - Mystery & Thriller - Historical Fiction - Fantasy - **Best of the Best - Romance - Science Fiction - Horror - Humor - Nonfiction - Memoir & Autobiography - History & Biography - Science & Technology - Food & Cookbooks - Graphic Novels & Comics - Poetry - Debut Author - Young Adult Fiction - Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction - Middle Grade & Children's - Picture Books -
**Notice there is a new category this year - Best of the Best. This has all the winners from the past 10 years, and you select the one that is the best of them all.
Fiction - Us Against You. Seriously this is my favorite of the year! Historical Fiction- The Great Alone The Best of the Best--The Nightingale. This one was hard!!! I almost picked Vampire Academy and The Day the Crayons Quit but those appeal to less of an audience. Romance- All Your Perfects (it's the only one I read) YA Fantasy-Kingdom of Ash (Okay I haven't finished it yet but I am loving it more than ACOFAS) Picture Books--The Word Collector

Every year I say I want to read more of these and every year I fail to do so!
Fiction - I've only read An American Marriage and Still Me but neither of them were great IMO. I probably will vote for An American Marriage because I liked that one slightly better.
Best of the Best - I went with 11/22/63. There were a lot of really good ones on there.
Romance - The Thief. The only other one I read was All Your Perfects. The Thief was better.
Debut Author and YA Fantasy- Children of Blood and Bone. I haven't finished it yet but I already know it's gonna be one of my favorites.

Fiction - Us Against You; also read An American Marriage and Still Me Fantasy - Burn Bright Best of the Best - The Hate U Give Romance - read The Thief, but didn't vote Debut Author - Children of Blood and Bone Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction - Children of Blood and Bone; also read Reaper at the Gates and A Court of Frost and Starlight
There were a few other nominees I haven't had a chance to read yet (Circe, The Immortalists, The Wedding Date).
After looking at the list I've discovered that I need to pick up the pace. I've read very few of the books on the lists, but many of them are on my to read list. I'll have to read more of the books before I can vote.
I’m not active myself on goodreads, but I do use it for reviews/suggestions and am already updating my to read list. I’ve read ten of this year’s picks (with two more in my house I haven’t gotten to yet). I thought the first five were very strong, 4.5 or 5 stars:
You Think It, I’ll Say It - Curtis Sittenfeld An American Marriage - Tayari Jones The Great Alone - Kristin Hannah A Higher Loyalty - James Comey Educated: A Memoir - Tara Westover
The Kiss Quotient - Helen Hoang The Wedding Date - Jasmine Guillory Factfulness - Hans Rosling When - The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing - Daniel Pink American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin - Terrence Hayes
I counted 35 read in the Best of the Best, and I agree with The Nightingale as the pick. That was just such a fabulous book.
I've read very few of these books lol. Usually I pick my reads for the next year from the winners of these lists ha. I thought I was doing a better job of reading new releases this year but apparently not.

Best of the best is crazy. I've read so many of them. I can't choose. And I apparently haven't read a whole lot of recently published books this year, I saw several on my to read list though so that's promising. All in all, I only voted in a couple of categories.
I always feeel too guilty to vote if I haven't read all of them because then I might not be voting for the best one. But I love getting ideas from the nominees!
Oops, I missed this one when I replied to the other thread.
I'm impressed Sarah Maas is on the "Best of the Best" 3 times!
At least I have read a lot of the books in that category, but it's really hard to pick a "best" because the genres are so different. For example The Hate U Give is an excellent book, but incredibly different than a lot of the escapist fantasy on that list. And A Dance With Dragons is great to lose yourself in, but you'd be utterly lost trying to read it without the rest of the series.
I feel like I should be givng All the Light We Cannot See another try since it keeps popping up as such an excellent book.
