We have the same dynamic here- DH wants and new tv and I don’t. In your case, that gift card would actually be DH’s to spend however he wants (same with if you got a similar gift at work). I would totally give in given the circumstances.
The difference though is even when I get things at work I spend it on house stuff, never myself. Which is partially my own fault I guess but still. There are just so many other things we could spend the money on like Christmas, A's birthday, house stuff, etc, especially since our finances aren't great at the moment. We've always had drastically different views on money.. he already gets his "allowance" he kept saying he was going to save for a TV but he blows it every month. He also mentions it every single chance he gets so I was already annoyed when he mentioned it today.
And now I'm pissed because he told E they were going to the store and now of course if I say no I'm the bad guy. This is on top of some other crap he's pulled lately so.. I'm just not in a happy place right now.
((Hugs)). Sorry you aren’t in a happy place right now.
We both get an allowance as well and DH rarely spends money on himself (usually itbwill be to buy clothes or shoes he needs for work, gifts for me, etc). He definitely doesn’t waste money on little things. I use mine for entertainment while home with the boys (DL, bagels, Starbucks, etc), random things for the boys that aren’t must haves, gifts/surprises for DH...rarely on myself.
But we are also tight financially with two kids and one income in a VHCOL so I can see not wanting to spend it on something that isn’t a “must have”. But knowing how much we both sacrifice and how hard he works for us I can see myself caving if we had a similar situation. Wouldn’t be thrilled about it but he deserves to have something nice here and there as well (we all do!).
Could he use a portion of the extra money and then save the rest? Or have it be part of his Christmas gift? That’s not cool that he said something to E without having a firm commitment/agreement from you...

The TV is less than the amount of the gift card so if we do go through with it, the rest is going to be used for Christmas and/or A's birthday. That's a good idea to have it maybe count as part of a Christmas gift or something. I'll have to consider that. I think we're going to try looking at it today and see if it's for sure what he wants, then we'll make a final decision.

My feet are so swollen from work. I’m not used to so much moving around lol. I even lost 5lbs in the 2 weeks I’ve worked there. But my left foot is being an ass today and is super swollen and have minor pain when I put weight on it. I’m hoping a day of rest will help it.
I made the mistake of mentioning a casserole I thought sounded gross. DH thought it sounded delicious. I’m not looking forward to a cheesy chili hot dog casserole.

That sounds delicious, like a chili cheese coney in casserole form.
We ended up getting the TV. So far I like it but the remote doesn't work with our sound bar which is annoying. H is going to see if he can get it to work with bluetooth but we'll see.

estrellita our sound system doesn’t work with the tv remote either. It’s a blessing in disguise. DH like to watch movies extremely loud late at night, so loud it sounded as if the tank in the movie was in our bedroom. I hid the sound system remote for awhile after that!
