Hi everybody, OMG it’s finally happening!! I have the course map printed out for my husband. We are staying within walking distance of the start and the hotel has breakfast. So they will probably hang back and take their time to eat.
I’ll look more at spectator strategies, but do you have any ideas of things he can do to keep the kids busy? Any indoor areas or anything like that? They are 9, 7, and 3.
Are they going to have a car? I'll be honest, there's not much near the start (or the finish). Maymont especially is great if they don't mind the cold. Bryan Park is nice too. There is a good children's museum (Children's Museum of Richmond) and science museum (Science Museum of VA) near the corner of Broad and Boulevard. I know those roads will be closed early in the morning, but they should be open again I would think by the time the museums open. There's also a fairly famous BBQ place near that corner (Buzz and Ned's) and a ton of breweries in that area. It would be a good place to hang out.
Also, if you have time, get yourself to sugar shack doughnuts.
With three kids I would certainly want to entertain them somehow, but my answer depends on what your estimated finish time.
The Children's Museum website tells me they don't open till 9:30, so that doesn't give them a ton of time to see the museum if you want to see them on the course.
They could probably hit up Bryan park, but the half runs through there so traffic might be tricky.

My husband and son have cheered for me at Richmond a few times. They usually have breakfast and hang out in the hotel for a while, and then they stake out a spot around mile 16 (after the bridge) and again close to mile 26. Then they meet me in the finisher area. There isn’t really that much time for them to kill when they go to all 3 places. Sorry I don’t have better advice!
