So I did the MCM last weekend and nyc this weekend. My body basically hates me right now. My left ankle hurts if I put my foot down completely flat, I have blisters on both of my feet. I was completely delirious by the time I finished on Sunday night. But it was an amazing experience. My MCM time was the worst marathon time I have ever had, but between the blue mile and the amazing soldiers that were running the race with us, it was inspiring. NYC was pretty amazing also. We ran with Achilles international (they pair able bodied runners up with disabled runners) The runners we were with have overcome so much, it was amazing that they would want to do a marathon, let alone finish it. Since I was a guide, I wasn’t timed, but our person finished and overcame some pretty debilitating problems to finish

Wow I’m in awe of your back to back accomplishments!! I can’t imagine having to run another this weekend! I saw a lot of Achilles runners out on the course. I have to say I drew some strength from them. I would think to myself along the lines of “suck it up Starburst, this person has had a hell of a lot harder time today and look at them go!” Kudos to you for giving your time to that!
Wow I'm in awe of your back to back accomplishments! How inspiring to run with the Achilles runners. How did you get into that?
Look into your local chapter, they are all over the place! Achilles international also has Facebook, and many of the locals have Facebook pages as well. I don’t know where you are located, but there are chapters in Manhattan, Brooklyn, queens, NJ, Philly
And I totally misunderstood the question. I was totally inspired the first time I ran NYC marathon in 2016. I remember going over the queensboro bridge feeling sorry for myself and seeing a man with one leg running up without complaining. I contacted the local chapter and started running with them on their weekly runs. I was asked to run a 5k as a guide, then a 10k. This year I was asked to guide for the marathon.
Wow, you’re such a badass and what a great cause to support!
It’s so funny you say badass (I’m so not) I injured my wrist a couple of months ago and I can no longer do push ups with my hands, I have to use my fists or small hand weights. The trainer at the gym I go to saw me one day and we got to talking about it. She told me she came up to talk to me because I looked so badass doing push-ups on my knuckles. I’m so far from badass but it felt good to be told I look that way.
I cannot tell you how much everyone’s words have meant to me. I feel like an old lady with how my body is feeling and your kind words have totally lifted my spirits. Thank you
