What are you getting, or what were your kids favorites at this age? I'm putting together his birthday (end of the month) and Christmas lists and would love any ideas.
So far I'm thinking Legos, Hot Wheels starter track set, puzzles, more Magnatiles, Playmobile set, and some kind of rocket ship toy (that's his current obsession)...and not sure what else. TIA!
- Legos - Dress-up stuff (my son especially loves his astronaut outfit, chef outfit, and some slippers that look like bear paws) - Play scarves (used for fort building) - Games
BTW, DS loves the Lego space shuttle. He needed help putting it together but plays with the model a lot.
At that DS1 loved lego junior that he could build himself and he started loving board games - peaceable kingdom has great games for that age. He also liked the press here game. Simple science kits as well.

Thank you for the space shuttle rec. I was looking at this earlier but thinking it was too old for him. I might reconsider!

We have the Green Toys rocket and DS has never gotten into it, but he really does like the Lego one. His room theme is space so I went a little over the top and got a giant cardboard rocket and he loves that too (but it takes up a lot of room...). www.target.com/p/rocketship-stand-in/-/A-52031080
I've also seen rocket play tents which would be a nice foldable alternative.
MIL did get him this which I think is a piece of junk but DS also likes. www.amazon.com/TOMY-L86210-Miles-Tomorrowland-Stellosphere/dp/B00TV0SOCG. His favorite thing is actually to put some glow in the dark plastic stars in it (like ones I used to have on my ceiling in grade school) because it has a black light inside and charges them up super bright.
If he wants something to actually play with at age four, I like Playmobil or a toy rocket better than Lego b/c Lego falls apart all the time. At that age, it's hard to fix it when they actually want to play with it.
I would add vehicles, kinetic sand, & Play-doh sets as possibilities. Also dinosaurs!! My DS was super into dinos at that point. I got a huge set of plastic dinos at a rummage sale and they have been played with a ton over the years.
DS was getting into games at age 4; ones like Hungry Hungry Hippos, Pop The Pig, Paw Patrol Ziplines & Ladders, and Shark Bite come to mind as some of his favourites.

FWIW, he turns 4 this month.
DS would lose his mind over the cardboard rocket. I might get him one of the foldable kinds though.

Oh I hadn't thought of play dinosaurs. He doesn't have any yet but he's definitely into them.
So far he’s getting: -junior LEGO sets (mostly Disney Cars) and brickhead LEGO (Mickey and Minnie) -hungry hungry hippos and lets go fishing games -golf clubs (DH’s idea...I would prefer to wait another year) -debating between leap frog leap pad vs kindle fire for kids -my parents bought him a disney Monorail set, which he will LOVE -bigger puzzles -books
His interests are Disney Cars/Mickey, super heroes, dinosaurs, and all things cars and trucks.
DS is 4.5 and talks about the following “wants” - a scooter - LEGOs, but not a set with directions, just lots of LEGOs - Kingdom Builders (something he saw on my FIL’s iPad and geeks out about when we see them at Target) - this giagantic $99 Jurassic Park dinosaur he saw at Walmart - Any random piece of crap toy in a blind bag
