Tl;dr version: I got a 13 minute pr in spite of my hip. It was a perfect morning for running! Feeling blessed.
Long version: Perfect weather! At the start I decided to jog as far as I could until my hip started talking to me around 1.5 miles. Then I switched to run walk 3-1 intervals for as long as I could. I was hoping to make it to mile 3. At mile 3, I decided to go for 4. At 4, my new goal became 6. Around then the course is really hilly for a bit, so I did a lot of walking. Mile 8 I picked back up to 3-1. Mile 9.5 my lack of training became apparent, but around 11.5 I got my second wind and my intervals were relatively fast. I crossed the finish line just over 2:31. I feel way better than the last time I ran this race 2 years ago.
I'm of 2 minds about my time. I'm excited because at the start this morning I was guessing it would take me about 3 hours, so 2:30 is awesome. However, based on my training back in Sept it should have been more like 2:15. But I had a wonderful morning, and I'm trying to focus on the positive!
My love for the half is cemented, and tomorrow I'll probably sign up for next year. And I'm going to try my best to not be injured for it.
