I need cheap gift recs (for kids) that pack a punch and/or DIY projects with low overhead.
For Santa's gifts, my plan right now is to create an art space for DD by hanging a picture frame on the wall with a hook in the middle for a large sketch pad and then DIY cheap shelves underneath to hold art supplies. For DS, I will be attaching a large Lego plate to an old kids' table, creating storage underneath and give him a Lego nook.
Outside of these projects, I need a few cheap gift ideas. Anyone?
Last year we did giant body pillows. They took up a ton of space under the tree and the kids love them! Ours have Trolls on them but Walmart has a bunch of different ones with characters.
Do you live in a area with snow? When we were small a toboggan or snowboard was always exciting. And they are cheap. My kids love it too. We are not in a really snowy area, but we lucked up the year we gave those. My kids both loved body pillows and sleeping bags. DD loves cheap craft sets from hobby lobby.
Get a thick piece of particle board, black paint or green paint, and some road/train track tape and make a city for cheap cars and trains. We used the top of an old coffee table. My kids LOVE IT and spend ridiculous amounts of time playing with it in DS’s room. I’ll see if I can find a pic of ours.
Here is our train/car table. They build cities, have car races, run trains, have Power Ranger battles or superhero battles. The 6 yo girl and 4 yo boy both love it.

Piggy-backing off of twinmomma's body pillow idea, you could get those, or the backrest pillow, and get a few puzzles (from the dollar store), or some movies and/or board games or craft kits that I would bet you can find for a great deal on/around Black Friday.
If you want to be super organized fishing tackle box sleeves work great for sorting beads into color coded slots. DD loves the melty pearl beads but hates having to hunt to find the colors she wants.
I love the idea of bean bag chairs or big floor pillows. Big hit here is the fancy bath bombs and anything from Bath and Body Works store.
Santa brought a weighted/rubber bottom mixing bowl, kid spoons, a muffin pan, liners, and tons of things to bake one year. The girls loved it and it was super cheap at Marshall’s/Tuesday Morning.
