DH has been as his current job for 2 years. For the first time ever, he likes his job. He has a good boss, he has a few reports who are decent people, he gets paid well, and the pace isn't frantic. That said, they only have money through 2020 at this point and he is looking for other jobs in case they do some serious belt-tightening between now and then.
He found a job in PA, and 2 here in MA. One in Lexington and one in Cambridge. Interviews for Lexington and Cambridge were this week.
The Lexington one went great. He is actually excited about the prospects there. Commute would be semi-tough, but still manageable. Plus they're flexible with his hours and he would have fairly generous PTO. Vibe is pretty laid back, he was almost giddy. Cambridge one was...OK. There's a problem employee who would report to him, and that would be a PITA. Commute as we know could be nightmarish. It took him an hour to get in on off-peak hours, and 2 hours to get home leaving at 4. 3 weeks of vacation for a senior position.
So now we wait. I'm secretly hoping he gets an offer from the Lexington gig so we go into 2019 knowing where he'll be working for the foreseeable future. But for now he has a job he likes. And it looks like we're staying put, which makes me happy especially for S. She is VERY settled into her little 8 year old life.
In the meantime I'm working with a recruiter looking at other WFH jobs for me. No word yet but the woman who has made my work life hellish for the last year just quit, so my work life is looking better.
He talked to the recruiter for the Lexington job over the weekend. Things are looking very promising, but they have another person interviewing next week. He's also due for an 18% bonus in February, so he'll have to figure out timing around that.
The Cambridge job wants him to do a phone interview with another person (he did the in-person interview last Wednesday). He's pretty sure he doesn't want that job, but will talk to the guy and see what happens
He had all but given up on the Lexington job, but got a call yesterday they will make a decision by Wednesday. Fingers crossed.
I passed the phone screen with flying colors and am spending part of my weekend doing a writing test. Good times!
Good luck to you both!
On a related note, and I hope you don't mind the slight hijack, but I just accepted a new job myself. If I have to go back to work, then this is probably as good a position as I could have hoped for and I got a pretty good package so fingers crossed that I like it.
Update on DH: he didn't get the job. They had a last-minute internal candidate who got it instead. He is wallowing for a bit, but says he will be fine.
I turned in my writing assignment on Monday and it typically takes them a week to review it. We'll see what happens
