I used to be in pretty good shape but 3 kids and 10 years staying at home later, sadly I am not anymore.
I belong to the Y and they have a bunch of great classes but I feel like I not even in good enough shape to make it through the class.
Is there some class you could recommend or like beginners routine that could help me build up to the regular classes? I would love to lose a little weight but more importantly I would just like to have more energy and feel “better”.
Walk. It's a great place to start! Maybe do Couch to 5K to build some base fitness.
No one will care if you go to the classes are a beginner! The instructors know what to do and how to modify things for all levels---I'd just go! I'm sure there will be all shapes and body sizes in the classes.

The Y will be a great place to start and honestly don't sell yourself short on making it through a class, everyone starts somewhere. I go to a weight lifting class at my Y that I love(they call it Strength Training together but really it's a cheap version of Body Pump) and everyone is at different levels, lifting more or less weight and taking breaks as needed. Whatever class you do the instructor will be able to help you get set up the first time. If you need to stop and take a break no big deal. I've been to a few spin classes where one guy just leisurely peddles the entire time ignoring the instructor.

Go to a class and just do what you can. You can usually modify things to be easier or you can leave early if you need to stop.
I started really working out by going to Zumba classes. There’s all Kinds of fitness levels in the classes I go to. Sometimes people don’t do things as intensely and lots of times people take breaks or leave early.
Walking and then running can be great too. I was never a runner but I started walking my dog and eventually decided I might as well run. Then I realized I really liked it.
Good luck! Just start something and do what you can!

I've learned that the only way to get into shape for a class is to find one you love and go regularly. I had taken over 6 months off from exercise due to a back issue. I started back by going to the kickboxing classes at my son's karate dojo. At that point I could barely make it through a class. There are still times that I have to modify because of my back.
Anything that you enjoy that gets you moving regularly and gets your heartrate up is better than nothing at all.

You can do this!!
I love all the classes I’ve done at my Y. Just try and get there a few minutes before and tell the teacher you’re new to the class and they are always so helpful for modifications and such.
