Will he do something? Lame duck of nothing? Go balls to the wall and make sweeping changes? I am curious....I have looked at the platform but I see that as tp equivalent, lacking teeth or drive.
Damn it. So, I'm back to we're screwed, aren't I? Maybe reauthorizing esea? Because idea is down the road next and I am worried education will fall away even more. And, with common core, we need focus.

Whatever it is, I'm sure the Rs will claim him to simultaneously be launching the most shockingly outrageously aggressive cultural behavior since Pol Pot and also mind-numbingly lax.
I think what Obama does if he wins depends on the Senate/House. I also think what he does depends on who his co-Dems are. Will Reid be the majority leader if the Dems retain the Senate? I feel like part of the issue with getting things done is who he's working with on the Dem side. Obviously, the Rs play a part in everything, as does Obama himself. But, I find Reid to be pretty worthless.

Sorry if anyone loves Harry Reid...lol.
That is a good point. Can I throw in boehnere too? Seriously, leadership...dc has none.
Tef - I would be thrilled if I never saw Boehner's face ever again.
I'd really like to wipe out the majority of the leadership from both parties in Washington and have different people there. Maybe they'll suck as much as the others, but I'm sick of the current faces and they clearly suck at their job.

I think this is an administration that will look much better in retrospect than it does as we are actually going through it. I fully expect Obama's popularity to rise once he's out of office, like Clinton, and unlike Bush II. Especially if he passes DOMA.
I'm also hoping for 1-2 more SCOTUS appointments, which would affect the court for possibly a few decades (given how youngish his other appointments have been). In fact, I think Ginsburg will announce her retirement after Obama's election. Or at least during his second term.
If Dems won it all, which I seriously doubt, I think DOMA would definitely be gone. I agree capital gains taxes could go up. Maybe some increased enviromental protections--less drilling etc.
There are some jobs bills that have been stalled. I think more for politics than the majority actually disagrees with them. I'm sure some version of those would be moved along.
I don't think so much about what he will do as what he won't do. I feel like he won't get us into any unnecessary wars and conflicts that we shouldn't be involved in. I expect he would handle international flare-ups better than Romney. I don't think social programs will be gutted under his administration. That sort of thing. I generally at least don't think things will get worse. Under Romney, I think, at least for low-income Americans and international relations, things would not go as well.
I don't expect a ton of improvements, but I don't think any president is a miracle worker especially considering how unproductive congress can be and how adamantly crazy cakes a sector of the population is. For all I know he'll spend his time fighting to keep the Union together because some people are so scared of him, they want to secede.

DOMA gone. I also think he would push something through regarding immigration. What? Well, I don't know. I don't think it would be amnesty, but definitely the DREAM Act and a worker visa program.
I think all presidents since Reagan spend their 1st term trying to get a little done here and there and make it to a second term. This is what Clinton did, this is what Obama will do. I think he will get more aggressive in his 2nd term because he doesn't have re-election to worry about. And I think he's pissed.

I would like to see Eric Holder replaced. Instead, we will probably just get John Kerry as Secretary of State (snoozefest). Which means Deval Patrick will probably appoint Warren to replace him if she loses, so we'll get her in the Senate either way.
Other than that, I don't expect a whole lot. Probably a few tax reform bills will be tossed around, and maybe some watered down bill with a few new deductions for both people and corporations will be passed.
I think student loan reform might be a big issue that dominates for a while. While I'm doubtful anything meaningful will be passed, I think it is a good issue for real bipartisan reform and I would love it if Congress could be adults and work together on it.
1. DOMA repealed 2. DREAM Act 3. Constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United 4. Repeal Bush's tax cuts 5. More funding for clean energy 6. National works project, building high speed trains (this is a dream)
All assuming he has suficient support in the house.
I am pro-student loan reform... all I know is, if you read about someone blowing up Sallie Mae some day - it's probably me.
I wish I was more well versed in the legalities of trying to file a suit against them because I am convinced there is no way that what they do is legal. I've got nothing but time and rage on my hands, but I know about zilch about this area of law.

oh, ew to Kerry? Seriously, there's no one better? I cant imagine Holder remaining. How can he. ANd Sebelius needs to go, along with her ethics violations, too,

He will make us all be Muslim and then he will admit that he wasn't really born here after all. ZOMG! Seriously, I think he'll probably be more proactive on social issues. If he wants to leave a legacy he knows the economy won't happen, so that's where I think he'll focus. Dems are probably hosed in 4 years as far as having the majority anyway.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
Repealing DOMA and some Supreme Court justices that don't scare the shit out of me. I have hope for immigration and tax reform but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think Jim Webb is well liked enough and I can't see them dusting off Bill Richardson. I can't think of anyone else. Kerry gave a speech at the DNC and everything. Blahhhhhh. I think he's competent enough, but he's tired and he doesn't strike me as capable of finding creative solutions to international problems. Plus, I just don't see him as the face of America. I think it's the one cabinet position where charisma really matters and he just doesn't have it.
I know it won't happen, but I think that Huntsman would make a great Sec of State.
I do, too, but I agree it won't . . . if for no reason other than that Bill Clinton got up and gave BO a big hug, and Bill still wants Hillary in the White House, and Obama owes them both, and making Huntsman SoS would position him too strongly for 2016.

unfortunately, I think that window has closed. She'll be almost 70 and, factor in her being a woman, too much for some to handle.

I think she's too old, too, but Bill looked really good on that stage. And everything I've read is that she says she is out but Bill says she might be in. Whatever that means.
