X post pls. help me find a book

I'm looking to get a book for Christmas, by an author I think her first name is Elizabeth. It's about people who vanish on purpose, usually to escape an unsafe situation. I heard about it on The Disappearance of Maura Murray. I can't find it on my Goodreads TBR list and it's not coming up on Google. If it helps there's a picture of a man in a suit with a briefcase on the cover...kind of almost ghost looking maybe? Thank you for your help.

Turns out it's "Playing Dead" by Elizabeth Greenwood. I'll check out the other Vanished true tales book, thank you for the rec! For some reason I'm facinated with this stuff lol.
