Warlight by Michael Odaajte

I couldn't get into this book. I forced myself to read the first half of the book and when it didn't improve I gave up.

I'm at 52 books for the year.

The Children of Blood and Bone 5* it took me a while to get through but I really liked it! I'm hit or miss on fantasy and this one is a hit.

Legendary 4* I liked this better than Caraval.

We Were Eight Years in Power 4* I still think about this book nearly every day.

Bird Box 5* I couldn't put it down!

I finished my reading challenge this month of 52 books this year. My page count is down from previous years though.

The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon 4* probably more like, 3.75 or 3.5*

The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz 5* I love love love his mysteries and this is the beginning of a new detective series.

The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon 4* but more like 3.5*

There There by Tommy Orange 4* but more like 4.5*.  I really enjoyed it.  It's definitely a book club type book because there's so much to analyze and discuss.

ETA: I had to fix a title and a rating that I got wrong the first time.

The Cost of Living by Deborah Levy, which was my favorite non-fiction book of the year, I think.

Factfulness by Hans Rosling. If you need an injection of optimism, this is the book for you.

Heartland by Sarah Smarsh. I liked this book but optimistic it was not. Still, much of her experience rang true to my own.

Clock Dance by Anne Tyler. This isn’t one of her best, but she’s still a wonderful creator of characters.

1. The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

I thought it was cute! I liked how it isn’t a series but the characters from her first book were in it too. I’m impressed she had 2 books out this year!
2. Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

One of her odder books but I liked it.


3. The Cactus by Sarah Haywood

It was okay. I don’t remember why I requested it in the first place though.



4. A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell

Not good at all. Super cheesy.

5. Leave No Trace by Mindy Mejia

It was fine. I liked the concept but for some reason it took me forever to finish.

6. Gross Anatomy by Mara Altman

Enjoyable. Some chapters were better than others.
7. American Fire: Love, Arson, and Life in a Vanishing Land by Monica Hesse

Interesting! I’ve been to the area so that made it more compelling than it would have been otherwise. It could have been fleshed out more though.
8. The Poison Squad: One Chemist's Single-Minded Crusade for Food Safety at the Turn of the Twentieth Century by Deborah Blum

Not a page turner lol but interesting. It is amazing how many thousands died just from tainted milk. And the weird ways they’d fake spices!!
9. True Crime Addict: How I Lost Myself in the Mysterious Disappearance of Maura Murray by James Renner

One of those nonfiction books where the author is more bizarre than the strange story they are telling.
10. Tuesday Nights in 1980 by Molly Prentiss

It was hard to keep the characters straight at first but I liked it. One character had synesthesia which was interesting because I have aphantasia which is pretty much the complete opposite.



I had a horrible cold/fever for a lot of November so I’m a bit behind. And again, a lot of books I’ve started and couldn’t get into slowing me down.

I have a lot of library books due in a week so I have to get going! I’ve read 247 books so far in 2018.

I can’t decide between all of my 4*s as a favorite. The Inspector Grenache series may have ruined me for all other audio books. I love the French names and inflections.

I think November was my slowest month all year. I finished:
The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis, 4.5 stars. I tore through it and found it fascinating.
Fear - Trump in the White House by Bob Woodward, 4 stars.
Ordinary People by Diana Evans, 4.5 stars.
