Can anyone recommend an easy pattern (I am not interested in a quilt) to use up scraps. I have leftovers of cotton, fleece and flannel. In the past I have made makeup bags, but I would like something else.
I make lots of these little drawstring bags as project bags and gift bags. They can be scrappy - I think she has instructions for patchwork type versions.

Coin purses are pretty handy. You can use the fleece to help pad them (instead of quilter's batting). The one I make is called a "sweetpea pod" or something like that. I made it from a video on craftsy, but I'm not sure it's offered anymore. It used the "one-zip method".
Tissue holders don't require very much material either.
You can also make hot pads, mug rugs, coasters, fabric post cards (if you mail letters/postcards to people).
I’ve been geeking out on quilt stuff lately, one of the things I’ve heard that I’m trying to implement for myself is to just make, even without something in mind. Try new techniques, play with colors and textures, just piece together something until it feels finished, etc. it doesn’t have to be something you show others or give away. I just sorted a bunch of my scraps by color, we’ll see if I can practice what I preach!
ETA: if you want to make something, you could look at mug rugs, scrappy or not depending on the size of your pieces.
Heat up rice bags are the bomb. Best with cotton scraps. Polar fleece kids mittens take like no fabric and are really warm. Hot mitts can be scrap pieced with cotton fabric and thread. My great grandma made lots of kids plush toys using 2" by 2" scraps. Actually very Minecraft looking stuff before it's time.
