My mom is trying to buy DD a portable music player (like an iPod) but claims that “all of them just let you stream music from Spotify but don’t let you put music on it.” I know this isn’t true. Anyone have recommendations for an MP3 player that would be nice enough to last but cheap enough for a 9 year old?
My 9yo wanted one this year, too- we ended up with a SanDisk Clip Sport ($30ish on Amazon last week, varies by color/model)- it gets pretty good reviews and accepts all the formats we need. Sony Walkmans are another (slightly more $ and larger) option I looked at, ultimately, I don't think this is going to be a long-lived thing for her- so the cheaper end worked for us.
Following for my 7 year old. We bought his brother an ipod shuffle which is great because it's not a screen. I load it with music and he listens with headphones. Unfortunately they stopped making them between when we bought his and last xmas when I went to get one for his brother They were only $50 at that point. I don't understand Apple and their planned obsolescence. I love my ipod shuffle.
I bought my kids a 2nd gen iPod nano off eBay for like $15.
Did you get new batteries? Those are really, really old, and LI batteries just do not hold up well over that kind of time.
Nope! Can you even change the batteries? We bought one off eBay and the other kid is using my DHs old one. We keep them docked in a speaker mainly and no issues. But a newer version would probably be better- I just wasn’t buying my 4 year old anything newer than what her sister had.

Well, easier than you can change a lot of the newer apple products- but, sourcing the batteries is a problem, I imagine. Just be cautious with any lithium ion battery that old- make sure you check them for swelling and heat pretty frequently.

I'm 97% sure I have an iPod shuffle of you want it
