Am I nuts? I just submitted an application to work in Labor and Delivery. I am desperate to get out of my current job and these positions are few and far between. OMG! I am so excited, nervous, scared....pregnant and completely switching gears. I am nuts. But I am feeling bold and inspired today. I need a change. This is a change that has been coming for a long time. I am not sure if I will even get the job since I have no L&D experience whatsoever, but I am hoping my critical care background will help that. Well, I gotta go get Zoe. She is up form her almost 3 hour nap! Woo hoo! What a great day! ;D
that is so exciting!! i want to know where - i think it would be half weird and half awesome to "know" your nurse.
duh, and also good luck!!
Had to mention that one of the women in my book club is an L&D nurse at the hospital I delivered at and she was my nurse right after Ethan was born. So I only had her for a couple hours as I was then moved to postpartum, but she is someone I know.
Here is what was strange about knowing your nurse....when my waters were broken by the doctor, there was meconium, so they had a NICU nurse come in to be ready once Ethan made his appearance. After he was all checked out, the NICU nurse must have been working on my chart and came back in the room to ask me if I still live on the same street listed in my chart. I told her yes and she told me she is my neighbor! She lives like three houses down from me. I haven't met her yet as she is new to the street so I had no idea. Nice to meet you.....while I am laying on the L&D bed getting all stitched up by the doctor......welcome to our neighborhood!
Jen - Good luck on the position. The L&D nurses were the most wonderful medical people I have ever worked with. I told them as much throughout my stay there. I'm lucky they put up with me!

Fingers crossed for you, Jen! It would be so wonderful for you to get out of the place that has made you unhappy, and I agree you would be a great L & D nurse!

I interviewed for jobs when I was pregnant - 5 months pregnant - in fact. Just the mere thought of a new job and the act of interviewing felt good. I knew I couldn't take it sine FMLA leave wouldn't apply, but it was nice to know there were options.
Thanks everyone! It is for a full time position, so if by some small chance I get it, I will most likely be going back FT. Kinda sucks, but at this point it doesn't matter much because I am so unhappy in my current position.
