1. Sub 1:40 half - Yes! Twice at Richmond (1:38:32) and Kiawah (1:38:16). 2. PR my 10-miler - Done at the Parkway Classic. I'm damn proud of this. 3. Complete an Olympic triathlon - I did two of them. Did not improve my time with the second one, but it was a more challenging course. 4. Complete a half ironman - Sort of, Officially it was a DNF (my first ever), unofficially I did the distance. 5. Improve my swimming - Meh, I think I'm better, but I've let this go for the time being. I'm just hoping to maintain for next year.

2018 - 1) 2018 miles between running, biking and swimming- Complete! I'm at 2273 miles and counting. 2) Fall Marathon - sub 4:00 (depending on the race) Complete! I finished Indianapolis sub 4. 3) Sub 1:50 half Complete! Finished two halves sub 1:50 4) Improve swimming/ take a class I took a class at beginning of 2018 but have not swam since my tri in July so yes & no. 5) Oly or sprint tri or both Sprint tri 6/3 6) PR 10k or 5k distance PR in my 10k distance and so so close on the 5k 7) Race in a new state - Complete - Indiana 8) Keep up with strength training -Not a true success but enough to keep me healthy/injury free.
1. Run a half. finish happy. - mid year answer: Yup! Done! -now:. Looking back I wish id found time for a road half this year. I had the miles in me to do this at a decent speed but I ran it with my mama on trails in a wintery mix and we took our sweet time.
2. "Run" a marathon. Finish happy. - mid year :Done! Glad I put run in quotes here. -now: still can't believe I did this. Also still can't believe how slowly I did it.
3. PR Oly at Rock Hall. - just missed this. had a fun race though.
4. Beat MH at all Tri's. (his goal for the year is to be faster than me at all three legs, rather than just hoping his lead off the bike is long enough) - mid year-LOLS. He just keeps getting faster on the bike, and he can beat me on the swim now too. I still run faster than he does. We'll see how the next one goes. -now: he can only beat me on the swim with a wetsuit and/or a flat bike. Final Tri of the year wasn't wetsuit legal and had rolling hills and I beat him. Yaaaaas!
5. Keep up once a week strength/weights. -mid year: *cough* no. Need to get back to this. Mid-year re-set I guess. -now: welp. No. But back at it again now that we've got the home gym all set up.
Looking back over 2018 I came to the conclusion that that I have to be a little scared of my goals in order to really reach for them. The trail marathon was nuts and then I just coasted for the rest of the year doing just enough to survive with a smile.
I guess for 2018, my goal is... try again at #3 [regain overall fitness] and 5 [Figure out where working out consistently fits the best in my life now that I have a LO, and make it a permanent priority to balance.]? I'd like to run a HM too, but I didn't register for CBHM, so it won't exactly be #4. Any races I do will be low key/sign up for just beforehand type events. We are hoping to TTC #2 in 2018 too, so it's a big fat "we'll see." The holidays as a working mom are a hard time to prioritize myself or H&F.
I'm going to give myself an ok on this.
I did regain some overall fitness, and completed stage 1 of NROLFW in late summer. That was a big thing for me, lots of inertia to overcome to do it. I had not lifted in like 20 years! I was consistent, I was getting it done (which sadly meant AM workouts, which I hate, but as to #5 -- that is what works.) As I was finishing up, I got a BFP after 6 or 7 months of TTC. Morning sickness hit hard and early, followed by major fatigue that lasted into 2nd tri, and I admit I'm not where I'd like to be right now on fitness (or self care). I also did not run any races this year. But as we get through the holidays and 2nd tri progresses, I think I can realistically improve on fitness some. Even if I don't, pregnancy + a 3 year old is a "survive this and just don't lose sight" season in my H&F life.
This is going to be the year of the PR for me. It was!
1. PR my half marathon: PR'd by 9 minutes at Kiawah
2. PR my Oly: PR'd by 8 minutes at USAT Nationals
and 70.3 distances: PR'd by 54 minutes at Atlantic City 70.3
(I would say sprint, but I don't know if I'll actually do a sprint this year): I did, and I did PR.
3. Have a strong and kick ass showing at USAT nationals: I did. I put together a coherent and complete race. If not for the swim that was way long, I think I could have gone sub-3 hours.
4. Do the Ride Across Indiana in July Nope. I said this in the mid-year check in that I bailed in favor of tri training. I definitely made the right decision.
This was a super good year, and I'm looking forward to smashing next year to hell and back.
This is from the mid year check in: My original thought is TERRIBLE, but let's see
1. Sub 1:10 at RRCA 10 miler (Feb) DH had to work so it was a DNS. 2. Sub 3:25 at Myrtle Beach (March) 3:28:03 and it was windy AF. It would have been damn near close without the gusts. I'm good with it. Plus I won my AG! 3. Course PR at Blue Ridge (April) YES!!!! 4. Sub 20:30 5k (Summer or Fall) No. I DIDN'T EVEN RUN ONE. Lol. 5. Sub 3:20 Marathon There's still Kiawah, but not likely! I don't want to do an intensive training cycle so I'm okay with that. I WAS WITHIN AN HOUR OF THIS GOAL. Yep.
EOY Update:
I hit no additional goals, but I'd call the year a success! 4 marathons, 2,000+ running miles, and ending the year feeling healthy mentally and physically. Plus, I bought a peloton bike in November which is just plain fun.
There are some awesome things that happened for our family that weren't on the 2018 list. Some of them made reaching our H&F goals harder and others gave us new opportunities! I took on a new job which I love, DH was promoted twice, switched schedules a few times (still waiting for the *right* one ),started grad school and still manages new H&F goals, my son has been very active on his competitive swim team, my oldest can now crush me in the 800 & the mile, and my youngest does whatever she wants
Hmm I didn’t reach many of them.. running goals all abandoned due to injury. I biked a fair bit but not as much as I hoped, this fall had been terrible. I’ve done a ton of spin classes but it doesn’t seem the same
I did however get much better at lifting weights and have been doing well with that, and have been trying to do yoga 1x a week with decent success
I also did lose the last 5-7lbs to get to pre kids weight from doing the ketogenic diet
I ran a 5K and 10K for the first time in years, ran a huge 50K PR, climbed Mt Hood, had a blast at Hood to Coast, and was much more consistent with strength training than I’ve been in quite awhile. Plus I got back on my bike and in the pool!
I love reading about everyone's goals and races, etc. As I said in the mid-year check-in, no official goals for 2018, since I had my baby in February. I am really pleased with the year, since I am actually slightly below my pre-pregnancy weight and in November I back squatted 265 lbs, which was my PR. So my strength is back.
I haven't run as much as I was hoping to, but I did do my first ever trail race this month (a 5k), and since that's the first running race I have done since before I got pregnant with my first kid 6 years ago it felt pretty good.
Goal 2018: Half marathon and 10 miler PRs.... maybe another marathon, but I am not sure I want to commit to that one just yet.
I PRed my half at Kiawah by 1:15 and the 10 miler Pr still manages to allude me. (Although I did run the first 10 miles of Kiawah about 4 minutes faster than my race PR)
I also BQed + 5 and PRed by almost 4 minutes at Richmond this year even though that wasn't one of my goals for 2019.

My 2018 goals were pretty conservative, so I did well with meeting them:
1. Don't get injured! I failed at this one, but I think the longest I was out of commission was 2 weeks, which wasn't too bad.
2. Run a fall marathon - Accomplished!
3. Maybe run a trail race in the spring - Accomplished! (I ran 10k and 15-mile trail races), but my big trail race goal (a 50k) didn't happen because the race was cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather.
4. I haven't PRed at any distance since 2015, so it would be great to PR at something. Anything. Accomplished in a big way! I had big PRs at every distance I raced this year (10k, 10-mile, and marathon). Weirdly, I didn't race a half (I ran one half marathon right before my full marathon, so I just ran it at goal marathon pace). I need to find a half to race in 2019.
I didn’t PR anything, but I kept realistic expectations about weight loss and DS2 is still nursing. I did rediscover my love for running, so I’ll call 2018 a win.
1) I hope to get pregnant in 2018. Just putting that up as number one - because it is my number one. Not announcing that to anyone outside of this board.
2) Run my 8th Earth Day 1/2 marathon in April. If I'm uncomfortably pregnant (which looks unlikely) or if training is wearing down my body too much I will re-evaluate. Maybe go for the 5K?
3) Make time for enough yoga/running/sweating to keep my sanity.
4) If I'm not pg by July I may consider a fall marathon. Probably Twin Cities again, but something in later October is better schedule-wise. We'll see.
I didn’t set any super ambitious fitness goals, so I did ok! Super happy to be 36 weeks pregnant and expecting baby what feels like any day. My doctor measured me yesterday and said I’m running out of room.
I ran my April half marathon possibly 1 minute pregnant, or otherwise conceived the week after. I haven’t done great with yoga classes, but I’m still sort of keeping up with some kind of stretching, strength, and waddling. I’m barely running at this point, but I super love this picture from a few weeks ago. Maybe getting a good preggo running pic is my biggest H&F accomplishment this year? 😉 PDQ.
2018 Goals: still developing, but I'm looking at a summer Ultra as my A-race, and possibly a late fall trail 50K. Some fun races sprinkled in- a du relay with a friend, possibly a sprint tri, etc.
Recap: I didn't set any super ambitious goals for 2018. I did meet my B goal in my overnight timed ultra, which was to make it longer than the previous year. I did sprinkle in a fun race- a 24 hour trail relay and I loved it. I ran very happy in 2018. Thankful to also be injury free in 2018.

018 Goals 1. 5k/10k PR - I don’t think I raced a single one 2. Sub 1:55 at Tobacco Road Half Marathon in March 2018 - Yes! 3. If not pregnant, PR at Kiawah Island Half Marathon in December 2018 - Nope 4. Do more triathlons, I'd like to PR some courses - I ended up doing a half Ironman instead of sprints, so nope 5. Get into a better swimming and biking habit - I did until half Ironman training ended.
2018 Goals: 1. Workout 3 times a week, while balancing work and family time - Eh, yes for the most part. 2. Learn to cook new healthy meals - Not really. 3. Run a fall marathon - hopefully NYC - Yes! I ran NYC. It was a PW, but I did it!
2018 wasn’t my best year H&F wise. I’m still struggling with fitting in time to workout. I’m also carrying around an extra 5 lbs that I don’t love. It’s vanity weight, but it bothers me and I want it gone. I need to focus on my diet in 2019. I haven’t had to eat like a normal person in 2 years between pregnancy and breastfeeding, so it’s hard going back to normal portions. At 36, I’m at the age where I can’t outrun a bad diet =(
2018 Goals: 1. Perform en pointe - Performed Flowers for Nutcracker. Still have a long way to go for learning to dance in pointe shoes, but I am proud that I did it. 2. Go on bike rides with the fam - did not do this. didn't even ride my bike this year! 3. Complete NROL Supercharged - Nearly completed. I stuck with it all year at least. 4. Complete at least one cut cycle, maybe two, and maybe a mass cycle with RP. Finished two cut cycles. Not even close to massing, and haven't decided if I will ever get to that.
