I survived the end of the semester. I survived holiday travel. I made it through both without bailing on any workouts. I did not get a final 5k PR this year, but I’m ok with that. I had a year that I’m really proud of and that’s allowed me to start dreaming some new dreams I never thought would be possible.
And now, some questions for my IronBae:
- How's your indoor bike season going? And why haven't we done a group ride on Zwift yet?
It’s going. I have a hard time understanding how the trainer work will translate to gains on the road. I may also be having old coach PTSD where my whole off season last year was “Do a Zwift Ride” and I got no feedback ever and made zero gains. I’ve been doing focused workouts and my coach seems pleased...I just don’t understand.
Why haven’t we ridden? You get up too early. :-)
- New Year's resolutions about triathlon, and GO.
Besides the normal PR ones? To become a smarter triathlete all around. To understand where I am in training cycles, to understand the purpose of the workouts I’m doing, and keep learning how to race smartly.
- We're about 12 weeks into training. Where have you made the most gains? Where do you still need to improve?
Gains: Running, no question. But swimming too. My pool paces are kind of startling. My running has made a huge jump since I started using the power meter. I know I still have a long way I can improve, but this past month has been kind of crazy.
