1. We are doing one day at MK the week of 1/13. The marathon is 1/9-1/13. If we go Wednesday the 16th, would we avoid most of the marathon crowds?
2. H and DS1 (who will be 4) are meeting me at Disneyland after a work conference in May. Is one full day in each park sufficient? With my work plus those two days, I’ll be gone from DS2 (who will be 17 months) for six nights and I don’t really want to make it longer. H and DS are flying out Wed night, park days would be Thursday and Friday, and we’d leave Saturday. Also, are the castle renovations expected to be complete by May? If not, we’ll just reschedule for another time since we’re only saving the cost of my plane ticket and it would be fun to go a year or two later when we could travel together so DS2 could join us.

Um...where are you seeing info on castle renovations at Disneyland? The only thing they have planned for the castle right now is the light removal from the holiday overlay.

I saw a blog post shared in the I’m So Disney group on Facebook, but I am having a hard time finding it now. I think it said the castle at Disneyland would be under renovation from 1/17- spring. I will check one more place because it might have been the Disneyland group I’m in that shared it.
Thanks. They are probably going to be doing some type of install for the new fireworks show that we are getting next spring. They usually do stuff on the castle in stages (front, back, etc) so that the entire castle isn't blocked off at once. Having it closed to foot traffic impacts guest movement in the park and makes it a PITA to get around when the park is busy.
You should be fine in May; they try to have all main street related stuff done by Easter and definitely by Memorial Day. Since Galaxy's Edge is opening next summer, they will try to avoid having parts of the park blocked off.
I have gone often during the marathon (not to run, lol) and last year we were actually in epcot while the runners ran through and there was minimal effect. It may affect transportation but otherwise completely NBD.
Were doing a few DL Days in May after I have a work conference too. 😄 I find two days to be plenty there, but I recommend park hoppers. It’s so easy to go back and forth! We find more to do I’m Disneyland, but like Cars Land enough that we’ll do it both days.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
We did DL in May last year (2018). Weather was great but the parks were significantly busier than I thought they would be. We were there in mid May and the parks were swamped by 2pm every day we were there. We did 5 days at the parks, 2 full days and 3 half days. We could have spent more time but I think 2 days would be fine, 3 would be better though. My kids were 6 and 2 and loved Disneyland, they probably would have spent weeks there lol.
WRT Disneyland, two days should be plenty. I would probably get a pro hopper for at least one of those days though. It’s nice to have the option to do either.

Get the hopper for every day that you are there. Park hopping is so easy and takes less than a minute to walk between the two park main gates. It is really nice to hit up one park in the morning for rides and then pop over to the other park in the afternoon to do shows/entertainment that are inside or in the shade, and then pop back over to the original park in the evening for dinner and nighttime entertainment. If you visit in the summer, you will want to do stuff inside or in the shade in the afternoon b/c the parks get hot even when the temps are in the 80s.

It's getting a new roof. It was damaged from the 60th anniversary overlay. It will be renovated between early January and about Spring Break.
krystee, abs So I am up at Disneyland right now and they have the castle blocked off. They have a gray fence around it and where the drawbridge would be, they have it painted like 2 giant castle doors. I will try to snap a pic of it tomorrow; it doesn't look bad at all. I know it won't be the iconic castle pic but they have tried to spruce up their 'no see green' walls to fit into the theme of the land.

Yes, all of this! There isn’t enough to do at CA Adventure for your DS (maybe 4-6 hours tops) but it’s still worth going too- especially for Cars Land! My boys love both but we definitely do a lot more in DL (we could stay there all day and be plenty entertained vs CA Adventure we get bored after a few hours because there’s not enough to do. And I don’t think Marvel will be done yet but I could be wrong with that assumption...

All the new Marvel stuff that is replacing Bugs Land wont open until 2020 at the earliest. Progress is going slow right now; they have the area blocked off and they have been tearing stuff down. The only indication that it is Marvel is the giant Stark Industries logo on the walls surrounding the land.

I figured it would be awhile. I did see that they have some Marvel characters (Captain America etc) on the app but that’s it. We haven’t ventured over there yet as we mainly do Cars Land, Toy Story, Pixar Ferris Wheel, and Little Mermaid before going to Disneyland.
