I read 18 books in December, for a total of 161 for the year
1.5 Stars: Cursed (Kingdoms of Earth & Air #2) by Keri Arthur
2 Stars: Soft Limits by Brianna Hale Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover by Sarah MacLean
3 Stars: Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between) by Lauren Graham The Strongest Steel by Scarlett Cole The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin Iron Princess (Savage Trilogy, #2) by Meghan March
3.5 Stars: Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren Navigating the Stars by Maria V. Snyder

5 Stars: Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor
We Were Eight Years in Power - An American Tragedy - Ta-Nehisi Coates - 4 stars Florida - Lauren Groff - 3.5 stars P.S. I Still Love You - Jenny Han - 4 stars You Better Not Cry - Augusten Burroughs - 4 stars Venture Girls - Raising Girls to be Tomorrow’s Leaders - Cristal Glangchai, PhD - 5 stars The Bear and the Nightingale - Katherine Arden - 2 stars ( ducks, lol) Drawdown - The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming - Paul Hawken, ed. - 5 stars
I read 76 on the year.
I loved Venture Girls and Drawdown, and in fact those two are my top picks for the whole year. Such quality information about things I think about all the time (and they're even tangentially related, as Drawdown puts "educating girls" as the sixth most effective solution to reduce carbon emissions, out of 80 proposed).
I read 6 books in December and finished with 66 (with 20 being audio, which really boosted my numbers):
The Short Drop by Matthew Fitzsimmons 4* Transcription by Kate Atkinson 2* (very disappointing after the hype) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis 4* (read with my kids) The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden 3* The Marsh King's Daughter by Karen Dionne (audio) 3* Dark Matter by Blake Crouch (audio) 5* - could "not put this book down"
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid 5* Somewhere Inside: One Sister's Captivity in North Korea and the Other's Fight to Bring Her Home by Laura Ling and Lisa Ling 4* The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey 3.5* Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead by Sara Gran 3*
I haven't read anything else by Taylor Jenkins Reid but she seems to get pretty good ratings on goodreads. Has anyone read anything else by her worth recommending?
4* A Girl in a Tower by Katherine Arden This was by far my favorite book this month!
3* A River in Darkness by Masaji Ishikawa. I liked this story but everything after his escape was rushed. I was left wanting to know more about him, his transition back to life outside North Korea, his family (although I know this information would have been difficult to obtain), etc. It felt incomplete.
2*
The Next Person You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. It didn't feel unique, felt too much like a his last book.
The Immoralist by Chloe Benjamin. This book wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting less about family dynamics and more about fate v. self fulfilling prophecy.
It was a bad month for failing to finish. I just couldn't get into these books. I tried reading, but gave up on: Ghosted by Rosie Walsh A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness Warlight by Michael Ondaatje
Hope Never Dies: An Obama Biden Mystery - not good but entertaining! I will probably read the sequel. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters - technically I didn't finish this because it was boring as hell but I got about 75% of the way through so I am counting it! Wildcard by Marie Lu - thought this was a good resolution to Warcross Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn - typical of her work but better than Dark Places I think.
I read 37/30 books in 2018. Now that I am done with grad school I upped my goal to 50. I don't think I will make it but we'll see!
I read The Forever War. That was a re-read from when I was around 13 or 14. Gotta say, a lot of the sexual stuff went right over my head the first time I read it!

I have read all of her other books except the newest. The others are very different, more fluffy but still good. I’ve enjoyed them all.
Hidden Figures - 3* The Underground Railroad - 3* Calypso - 4* My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry - 4* Girl Wash Your Face - 2* (embarrassed to admit I read this one, lol. It was my irl book club pick) Rich People Problems - 4*
