Cartagena, Colombia

I would do a night or two on one of the islands or beaches if you're able to. Everything I heard about the beaches right in Cartagena was that they weren't that great and we really enjoyed getting out of the city.

We only had two evenings in town so we mainly just wandered the walled city and drank mojitos which I'm guessing isn't what you're going for with kids. The street vendors were relentless there, even at dinner so I'd recommend eating inside or on an upper level so you're not right on the street. We woke up early one morning to wander around the walled city and it was awesome to have the streets almost to ourselves.
