I remember last year my gym got significantly busier for the first 4-6 weeks of the year. My early morning spin class tripled in attendance. I haven’t been on a normal gym schedule for the past week, but I’m planning to go to my spin class tomorrow, and I’m wondering what I’ll find.

Yes. I ran at the gym yesterday. Almost every cardio machine was full. I go to a Planet Fitness that has A LOT of cardio machines. And 2 different areas for them. Then, when I was done, I was like, hey let me go do some strength training. Nope, no luck. Every machine had some guy sitting on it staring at his phone and every bench by the free weights had some guy resting his dumbbells and water bottle on it.
I’m really glad to see the new people there. I hope they stick it out. It helps inspire me to keep going. I do, however, hope at least a few of them decide that pre-dawn early morning is not their preferred time.

I haven’t been this year but it is generally really busy this time of the year. I go to the YMCA and usually most cardio machine is full and the classes are full. It hasn’t been nearly as cold as usual though and the bike trail was packed today so who knows.

Where I live, the other big factor this time of year (besides the obvious) is the weather. January is the coldest, wettest month in a place where people aren’t really accustomed to cold and wet.
My 530 spin class was a bit more crowded last week, and I think this week it will be even moreso. It did look like more people were on the floor on well.
Yes. I find it to be more college students on break vs brand new when I typically go at noon during the week. My gym gets busy over the holidays and continues strong until about spring break time - both college kids home and people getting ready for vacations.
Word from my neighborhood gym is that crowds were less than usual, but we had spectacular weather (sun/ 65 degrees) all weekend. It gets cold again later in the week, so that will probably change. If it rains this weekend I'll find out if I decide to try to/reserve a bike for a spin class.
Our little one was packed this morning. I’m not sure if it’s the January bump or that I live in an area with a lot of federal government workers, who suddenly have spare time in the mornings because of the shutdown.
