So I have this work party (it's the big yearly party where they hand out employee of the year awards and such) that I have to go to in February, and I have to dress up. Pants and a nice shirt are not going to cut it.
I've been browsing rent the runway, and this is what I like so far:
and
I'm sorry the images are so big
Are these dresses pretty? Acceptable for a marketing consulting firm's blowout yearly party? Do I need to look for something more colorful?
I like them both. I prefer option 1 over option 2 for an event fancy enough that someday someone might wear a tux to it. #2 is pretty but looks a little more casual to me, though it could definitely be dressed up with accessories.
lol of course Ill vote # 2 since everyone else voted for 1
like them both but 2 is younger 1 is old looking to me and Im old!
lol!
I was leaning towards 2 because it seemed more forgiving...not that any dress is forgiving.
When I was looking at dresses this weekend, I actually broke out into hives. On my face My lip swelled up so much it look like I'd been hit. My H asked if I thought I could wear pants and a nice blouse, but I really don't think I could get away with that this time.
I've committed to dress 1...I think I'll feel good in it. I hope I will...
I'm curious what y'all would wear to a company event like this. If you could pick any dress at all - would you want to make a statement? Or would you want to just kind of blend in?

I'd probably not do either. I'd pick what I liked and not worry about fitting in or standing out. I like long flowy dresses with boots so that what I would have gone with. Dressy enough but not glam. That's just my style.
The last time I got dressed up I wore a black dress with hot pink heels that I had been wanting to wear forever. I usually wear more neutral dresses/pants/blouses so my shoes and jewelry stand out.
If I was getting something new, I've been digging the large over size floral prints I've seen lately. I also like the velvet pieces I've seen around. Overall I'm about something that makes me feel good. I still use advice my Mom gave me years ago. "Try anything on even if you don't necessarily like it on the rack. It could be perfect." There have been so many pieces that I was just Meh about but once I tried them on they worked for me.
My personal style is long gowns whenever I get a chance to wear them, maybe with sequins or beading. I definitely go more glam, but that's my style. And these days I'd be wearing flats with them because my foot still can't do heels. Or at least, I'm not willing to chance it yet.
I love me a good sheath dress with sparkles. I have been obsessed with browsing dresses on Rent the runway for my "trip of a lifetime" in September and everything on my list is sequined or sparkly. I clearly like the bling.
