It was a really long week but it is finally Friday. I finished all my payroll client W2s yesterday!! Now onto 1099MISC..
Lion King tonight at 8pm. DD is so psyched! I'm doing cartwheels in my head as this is one of my favorite movies mainly for the music. I just hope I don't pay for the super late night all weekend long with a cranky kid. DD normally is in bed by 7:30.
Saturday we are heading up to OSU for their gymnastic meet against UTAH. DD is again super psyched and so am I for a girls afternoon.
Sunday will be sleeping, cleaning, and meal prepping for next week.
After work we are watching the Masked Singer. All three kids love it. Tonight DS has a sleepover so the girls will hang out together while DH and I head to Seasons 52 for our annual “resolutions” dinner. And I can catch him up on the week. I’m cooking dinner for the girls before I leave.
I’m going to work out with a friend in the morning, then running my mom’s errands and helping her figure out her new chrome book. Seeing my niece for her birthday. DD and I have a night hike and it’s supposed to be in the 20s and possibly snowing. It’s experiences more than hiking and less than half a miles so I think she will be okay in her boot.
Sunday is church then women’s march. Probably dinner with friends.
Monday the kids and I are off. I want to clean and organize. Play games, chill.
I jumped a friend’s car last night and the hood closed on my head and slammed my face into the engine. I kind of think I have a concussion. No time for that.
We’re more than halfway through our road trip to go skiing. The snow chains arrived, thankfully. We packed the car last night and were hoping for a leisurely morning getting out the door - until DD woke me at 4 am with UTI symptoms. Off to urgent care we went at 7 am. We did still get on the road pretty close to when we planned.
Our friends we rented the house with are coming up a little later and we know a few other families who will be in town too. Then we come back Monday, I have work travel Tues/Wed, and I have bunion surgery Thursday
No plans here. There's a snow storm coming that could dump anywhere from 3" to 12", depending on the path. I'm kind of excited for the snow. Am I the only one who thinks snow falling in the evening is so beautiful with the moon bouncing off of it? So we'll head to the gym in the morning. If the snow doesn't start early, we'll take the kids to get haircuts. The boys have been waking up with some wild hair lately. Then we'll hunker down at home with games, movies, and crafts. On Sunday, I'm sure DH and I will be shoveling while the kids play in the snow. I might schedule a massage for Sunday afternoon if the roads are ok. My neck has been hurting like heck all week and no amount of stretching or ibuprofen is helping.
DH already did our grocery shopping for the next week so we don't have to worry about it this weekend. DD is off from school today and Monday, while DS1 is off on Monday. I am working on Monday. I'm also heading to the dentist on Monday to see if I have a cavity. My tooth has been hurting every time I chew on that side. I hope a quick fix will do the trick.
2chatter, Oh NO! Please be careful concussions are nothing to take lightly. You may need to reduce your weekend for a couple days of R&R at home with the kiddos.
We have the usual kids' activities. One of DD's friends invited her over for a play date, we haven't made much inroads on the play date circuit for DD, so I'm glad it's finally happening.
With DH working out of town Sun - Wed nowadays, it's forcing us to try to optimize our family time better. So now I'm determined that we shall have no activities Saturdays from 3:30 onward so that we could make dinner together and watch a movie or play board games.

2chatter, take care of yourself and get some rest this weekend, especially if you're feeling some hallmark concussion symptoms.
Tonight DS has baseball and DH has a work holiday party. I was going to go to the party, but my parents didn't put it on their calendar to watch the kids and we don't have anyone else, so he's going solo. (MIL probably could schedule-wise, but I don't think she's emotionally stable enough right now because she's so worried about what is going on with her kidney that I trust her to stay with the kids.)
Tomorrow we're celebrating my dad's birthday and no other plans.
Sunday is church and then I'm going to have coffee with a friend.
I have a retirement party for my old boss. Biter sweet, I guess?
Tomorrow is the first birthday party DS has been invited to. I would have skipped it, but DD saw the invite, and is friends with the big sister and begged to go. (I seriously feel so awkward about the siblings at party thing - texted the mom and asked if it was okay to bring DD and pay her way in, which was no problem.) We also are supposed to get our couches delivered tomorrow.
Sunday is no plans, and Monday is what used to be my favorite holiday but will become a girls day with DD. Not quite as good as laying in bed by myself all day, but we'll probably go to breakfast and Hobby Lobby.
We are supposed to be getting an indeterminate amount of snow. The weather channel for some reason says 1 inch. Other media outlets report 3-9 inches. 3 is not big deal, but 6-9 is a problem.
We have daddy daughter bowling Sat and Cub Scouts Sunday. I like the activities, but the only problem with them is then I am not inspired to do playdates since I already have plans both days so my playdate game for DD is suffering, and I really do like her friend's moms.
I am kind of feeling cabin fever, but no place to go. I don't want to drive super far in the snow. We could maybe fly somewhere for Presidents Weekend, but that is a month away....
Tonight is movie night. DS asks every single day if we can have movie night, so he will be glad. Tomorrow will be really cold, so we are staying inside and making corn chowder. We will play games and build pillow forts and just generally be silly. Sunday we have nothing yet, but we could run errands or have dinner with friends.
Monday I leave on a business trip. I come home on Wednesday at a reasonable hour.
Celebration: This week I delegated two business trips to subordinates and just refused another. Operation Stop Being A Road Warrior is in full effect.
Another celebration: Left work early to go have aCT scan of my sinuses. They got me out 15 minutes before my appointment was scheduled to begin! Yay efficient medical providers!
I am counting down the minutes until I can go home. This week I have been late because the company car wouldn't start (I actually couldn't even get it open because the battery was dead. I spent 5 minute trying to figure out if I picked up the wrong keys), missed my regular exit to school and was late, dropped my lunch in the street, dropped my books on the sidewalk running to get my lunch, spilled coffee on myself 2x, can't get anything done, including a grant report, in my office because I can't get people to leave me alone, and I am still fighting with ATT about the phone. I am going home tonight, putting on soft pants, a sweatshirt, and fuzzy socks and drinking a bottle of wine while DH grills the kids burgers.
Saturday we may do yoga, if I wake up. We are supposed to get rain that may turn into a little snow. I really want snow. This is the one time I would love a good snowstorm. We are all off for 3 days so plenty of time to melt before we all go back.
Sunday, volleyball and Monday volleyball. I may take one of the days to do some odd chores at the house that don't get done often like cleaning closets.
It’s my trail 50k today! I can’t sleep. I’m not sure how it’s going to go, I have a cough and sore throat. I hope I finish! The weather sucks and it’s gonna be epic!
Sunday we spend the day with the in laws and Monday no plans but we are both off.

We are in the path of the mystery amount of snow. So far its just raining which will be ice. I hate ice. It's also windy so if it keeps it up we will lose power.
We have a surprise 30th birthday tonight if the weather doesn't get too bad. Mexican food and bowling!
No plans either day besides that party! I may clean my house and cancel the cleaning lady for Monday. DS doesn't have school Monday but I will have to work. I may see if DH wants to take the kids and MIL to lunch.
So I go to bed on Friday with a dusting of snow predicted. Wake up to 3-6 prediction. Sitting in front of the fire place with snow starting and anywhere of 3-8 inches. Apparently I missed my calling of a meteorologist where I just tell people I really dont know what's happening. Kept Ds home from a party and we skipped watching the game at a friends which is good since no one here can drive on snow and they are already running off the road.

Family movie night was a bust. DS (6.5) is still too scared to watch any movies, other than Frozen, which he watched with DD over the Christmas break. The kids has no problems watching nature documentaries where animals tear and rip each other into pieces, but sure, a simple cartoon is "too scary".

We had that same problem with DS. It took very carefully cultivating movies to his exact interest to make the switch and live action was often less scary. Because he was sports obsessed my first actual success at family movie night was Mighty Ducks. The Airbud movies are also good but cheesy for adults. Then we moved onto all the kids sport and adventure movies slowly. The Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield, the Goonies. We slowly built up to Home Alone 1 and 2. If he likes animals maybe Because of Winn Dixie, Fly Away Home and Dolphin Tale. DS just leaves if DD and I watch anything girly but the occasional romcom was not scary to him either. We also did the Honey I Shrunk the Kids series. Sometimes there is problematic language that wouldn’t fly, but I swear they don’t make kid movies like they used to. We did have to get him to sit with us and help him through scary parts of he had to leave the room for them.
Anyone have a kid that sleepwalks? DD has done it twice and both times she is walking around with her new diary in her hand. It’s weird. Lots of loud crying then back asleep instantly and doesn’t remember it in the morning.

rere we got quite a bit too with at least a 1/4 inch of ice before and strong winds after. I told DH we got all of winter yesterday. Thankfully we never lost power.
Everyone here was bitching because 8-12" was the original forecast, then 6-8" and then when we woke up yesterday we were getting ice and there wasnt any snow yet. Never mind the fact that every weather forecast said snow will be coming later.
Ok I have another question. I have an 8 year old boy. When we try to go to indoor pools he is not allowed in the woman’s locker room. Do you all just have them go in the men’s? I don’t think the place we are going to has a family locker room. And those that do tend to be super small and crowded and adults can’t change in there without a separate room.
waverly, yes, I would send him in alone. He can change in a stall if he’s uncomfortable being in the open changing area. We wear our suits to the pool under our clothes then change out of our suits to dry clothes after swimming. So he would only need to be in there alone for 3-5 minutes.
I figured plus he is tall and looks old for his age. I’ll tell him to look for a stall. I’m PMSing so I have that hormonal induced anxiety plus I’ve never been before and for some reason I’m always nervous the first time I go someplace or do something new.
waverly- I get it. My 4 year old boy wants to go to the bathroom alone in public places now and while the rational part of me knows it’s NBD*, I still get a little creeped out.
*except if he poops since he still yells “I need help wiping!” and then stands there with his pants around his ankles until someone comes help him. So I won’t let him go alone to poop.
I work in a public building with thousands of people that come through. Creepy behavior and sexual offenses are just more noticeable/ apparent/ prevelent in my line of work than perhaps people that don’t work with the public. We have a good system for handling them, but sometimes it gets to us and just seems like a lot.

Oh those are awesome ideas! He is obsessed with hockey so the Mighty Ducks would work well. Somehow I just never thought about "real" movies instead of Disney/Pixar.
Between illness and now snow, the children and I have been trapped in this house since Wednesday. There is no school tomorrow. We may not make it out alive. I swear, if I hear "Mooommmmm" one more time, I'm going to lose my shit.
traveltheworld, we also had to start off with real movies and work into the Disney/Pixar cartoon movies. Dolphin Tale is one of DD's favorites. We done the gymnastic movies, most of the live action Disney remakes, Mirror Mirror is another favorite for the music and dancing, White Christmas. We've also just started watching family movie night and trading turns on who gets to pick. If DD doesn't like it she can go to her room and play but we won't turn it off. Most of the time we find her in the hall playing and listening to the movie. Then we try the movie again a couple months later and she will watch it.
