Pigs Ears- yes or no?

Are these in any way like rawhides? I don't give those to my dogs at all, but we were at my sister's house this weekend and her dog had a pig ear (or maybe a cow ear? Don't know, but it was huge!) and my dogs were going bananas over it.

What are your thoughts on these things?

I know the pig ears are very high in fat.

We don't give them to our dogs

Depends on the dog. On the farm here, we only give it to the dogs that won't have weak systems, or any problems. Our chessie had severe kidney/pancreas problems, so we avoided that. Anything with calcium in it, should be avoided in situations like that. What is my biggest concern some dogs will actually carry the whole ear in their month, which can lead to choking.
