waverly DD1 is seeing a pedi gastroenterologist. He has done several studies on the link between gut bacteria and behavior. We are hoping to get to the bottom of DD1’s explosions, coupling this with therapy/group work. Fingers are crossed.
I am kind of regretting signing DS up field hockey as I put all the sports stuff in the calendar, but I did tell DH that it was his responsibility. That's when the neighbor chimed in we can take him. Which is nice, but I still have to do the mental part of handling carpooling and the schedule and getting his equipment ready, so I need DH to do that.
And probably too prideful, but I don't want them just "taking" him all the time. I feel like I have to reciprocate and keep in the loop. And Friday was family movie night. At least it is only 5 weeks long.
Has anyone done an elimination diet? TMI, but I have a lot of bloating and it gets so bad that it even goes into my back and causes back pain. So I was hoping to find what foods are triggering it.
I know chocolate sometimes triggers my acid reflux which is sad. But I can counteract that with medicine. But anti bloating and gas medicine is really not that helpful and probiotics don't do that much on a regular basis nor do digestive aids.
My sister did whole 30 as a start to an elimination diet and it’s resolved her medical condition with her esophagus. She’d highly recommend it and has been so go about it. She was able to get off her meds and isn’t having the issues she was having before so they think some food is her trigger but don’t know exactly what (grains, dairy, added sugar).

I don't normally work Mondays, but I tired my son out with a play date, followed by a trip to the science center, then groceries, and now he is finally entertaining himself so that I can try to write a cover letter and resume.
mustardseed2007 those sound great!! I have kind of transformed from a solo 5k/Half runner every couple of years into endurance and trails, only during the last year or so. Mostly because I joined a running club. 10 years of solo treadmill and road runs and I never realized how many other options were out there.
It was incredibly hard but I’m really glad I did it! Good luck at your races coming up!
sandandsea that is so encouraging. I think we may land in elimination diet land with DD (gastritis, esophagitis). I’m already super struggling to meet her caloric and fat needs and lactose was a go to (milk, full fat Greek yogurt, cheese - so much cheese, butter, chocolate). Dinner tonight was amazing and simple - zucchini, pan seared shrimp (salt only), with salmon topped with avocado and cherry tomatoes chopped small.
You guys may have to endure lots of food talk from me. Between doing the challenge I am and DD’s stuff ... I spend an absurd amount of time doing math related to food (her macros and my macros).
I've done both FODMAP and some AIP elimination diet. Both were hard, but really helpful. Obviously finding out I have celiac and going gluten free made a huge difference, but I also discovered a ton of FODMAP foods that I need to avoid too.
waverly while I was nursing my kids I cut out a lot of stuff since we could never figure out what was bothering them and causing them to not gain weight and have gastric issues. With DS2 I cut out everything I could think of (dairy, soy, wheat, corn, eggs, chcocolate, caffeine, wine...and all the hidden versions too). It was a good way to lose baby weight but didn’t help the nursing situation or change how I felt very much . Good luck if you try the elimination! I found it easy to eat at chain restaurants (like chipotle and Panera) since they have detailed lists of allergens. But it’s definitely harder to eat at nicer places.
mommyatty I just went through TSA and was thinking the same thing - these people are incredible for not only still coming to work, but being kind and cheerful as well.
I was off yesterday. One of the upsides of banking. DD and I had a girls day - shopping, lunch date, movie. It started off rocky, but ended up turning out to be nice. DH came home early around 5:30 and sent me off to get a pedicure. That was nice. I think the pod people got him.
I'm slammed at work. If only I had someone I felt confident delegating to.. =\
I can't sleep. I'm so tired and can barely keep my eyes open. I go to bed an crash instantly but then wake 3 hours later ready to go and toss and turn for hours. Start to doze back off and DH wakes me when he gets up and then I crash hard for the next hour before the alarm goes off. This has happened the last 4 nights. I've been taking melatonin already. Anyone have any ideas how I can stay asleep all night so I wake up feeling rested instead of exhausted?
186momx, no advice, just commiseration. I noticed that when I hit my late 30s, my sleep was closely linked to my cycle. The week before my period has become known as "no sleep week". I have not found anything that works.
I've been having awful sleep for the past week, which is typically known as "excellent sleep week". Last night was my first night of undisturbed sleep for 6 straight hours. Dh is out of town, my mind was too tired to race, the wind was quiet.
I have found that CBD oil helps in general. I needed to find the right dosage. Too much made me restless, too little did nothing.
186momx do you do white noise already? I’m addicted. It helps me sleep and also makes me notice less when DH gets up. Also is it cool enough in your room? You’ve probably thought of this stuff already, but if not...
I have two of these and love them. They make really deep fan-like noises rather than the higher pitched noise that phone white noise apps make.
186momx - progesterone worked for me! I don’t take it any more (pharmacy mishap showed me I didn’t need it).
And to echo Mae - I use brown noise. Love it.
I am tracking all my food on MFP and a protein shake around bedtime knocks me out and is low sugar and gets me closer to my macros. I sleep like a rock when I do it, and have been wondering if it’s coincidence or not.
I also run when or do body weight exercises at home when I am restless and it helps with sleep.
I have the same problem - fall asleep without issue, wake up after 2 or 3 hours. The only thing that has worked to a certain degree is meditation. I use Headspace and there are specific routines for sleep. I think the longest one runs for about 45 minutes. You just lie in bed and listen. Most of the time I fall asleep before the 45 minutes are up.
mae0111, I really hope it isn't linked to my cycle. I will watch to see if it happens again next month at the same time. I've cut caffeine yesterday and today in hopes that helps. DH would love it if we slept with white noise but it drives me absolutely bonkers. I have very sensitive ears to the point I can hear the electrical charge whine that comes from a phone charger plugged into the wall without a phone hooked to it. 2chatter, I am eating dinner later because I'm getting home later...wonder if that is part of it. Like I ate dinner at 7:45 last night (large stuffed pepper) and went to bed at 9 (normal time). The problem is during tax season this is my schedule as I deal with DD when I walk in the door at 6:45 until she is in bed and then I stop and take care of me and prep for the next day.
PSA- If you check out anger management books and then are angry with your librarian we are going to know.
Also, we can pretty much tell when you are lying or even when you are not lying and truly believe you have returned that book. Don't add more details like it was Tuesday morning at 8:45 am; it was raining, and I was wearing blue when I put that item in the book drop. The more details like that the more likely none of that happened.
186momx, Now that I am allergic to NSAIDS womp womp, I have been taking Melatonin and I do feel like I am waking up earlier. Not as early as you, and sort of going back to sleep but not right away maybe in 45 minutes - 1.5 hours. I was wondering if it had to do with the release of the medication because I think some Melatonin releases right away and some is a time release.
waverly - I thought of you - DD cannot take NSAIDs and I am hoping it helps to have her not take them. Her migraine cure from her neuro was Advil/Sudafed/Tylenol and her pain management and GI doctors said that’s a terrible solution for kids. I wish more doctors were on top of nsaid risks!!
2chatter, did you guys ever get a diagnosis for your DD? One of my friends son's was recently diagnosed with colitis and it sounds similar to what you describe with her. He also had kidney stones though. I remember you saying she couldn't eat a lot of foods because of what she had, but I can't remember what it was.
xctsclrx - so far we have ruled out colon issues - for her, it’s higher. Gastritis and esophagitis so far, with biopsies pending. We go back for full results next Thursday. She starts biofeedback today. She still hasn’t returned to school, which is starting to really stress me out. It’s week three.
She’s desperate to get back to church activities and see people and stop being miserable. It’s super hard to watch.
I can only imagine. It sucks watching your child in pain knowing that you are doing all that you can do and it isn't enough. Sending all positive vibes your way so that you can get an accurate diagnosis and productive treatment plan.
