I finished Becoming earlier this week. 4.5* It was excellent, though a little more dense than I had anticipated. It was not a quick read for me.
I finished The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan this morning. 4.75* I really enjoyed it until the last few pages where it was almost unbearably schmaltzy.
I'm going to start All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung later today or sometime this weekend.
QOTW: I remember liking Candyland and Monopoly and we'd always play Pictionary at big family gatherings.
I finished Everyone Brave is a Forgiven by Chris Cleave,4*. I loved this book until the ending. I understand what the author was doing by the ending he chose, but I really wish the ending had been different. I am 75% of the way through The Winter of the Witch. I am enjoying the book, but not as much as I enjoyed the previous books in the series.
Qotw: The first board game that I remember loving was Scattergories.
Finished: Believe Me by JP Delaney This one took me forever to get through. There was no pull to the story at all and I had no desire to find out the end. It was basically like 3 episodes of criminal minds, a YA drama, and a bad lifetime movie rolled into a book.
Just stared: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
QOTW: Monopoly-we used to play all the time when I was a kid.
I recently finished, "Luckiest Girl Alive." Disliked! The main character was a conceited, social climber who was extremely dull to read about. Also, I thought the author overwhelmed the story with two dramatic/traumatizing events.
Currently reading, "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah Maas. So far, so good.
QOTW: Trouble - I love board games and can't wait to play them with my kids!
I had a good week and finished 4 books - Children of Blood and Bone Behind Closed Doors Chasing Daylight (53yo former CEO of KPMG given 3 moths to live - his memoir of how he copes) I’ll Be Gone in the Dark
All were 3 stars for me.
Currently reading Modern Romance and Going Clear (about Scientology).
QOTW - Candyland and Chutes and Ladders were faves! I also loved Mouse Trap (anyone remember that?) but it was such a pita to set up. Lol

I'm still reading You. I should be done today or tomorrow. I have Hidden Bodies already on loan so I will start that one right away.
QOTW: we were really into card games. Uno, Skip-bo, 500 Rummy, Sheephead (I'm from WI). We also played a game called Nerts which was sort of like competitive solitaire. My favorite board game was probably Life. I did like monopoly but my mom never liked playing it. Being a mom now I can understand not wanting to get into a 8 hour long game with kids.

I really need time to read. I started a book I can't even remember the name of but it didn't catch my attention so I put it down. Switched to Sisters One, Two, Three. ONly a few pages in but pretty good.
QOTW: We didn't really have a lot of board games growing up so by default I must say Parchisi (which I think is the original Sorry). Dating myself here, I loved when my friends brought over Girl Talk or Meet Me at the Mall.
Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren; 5/5* - I really liked this book! I love friends-to-love romance novels and this one was pretty great. In so many ways it reminded me of my early relationship with DH (before we got married.)
When He Was Wicked (Bridgertons #6) by Julia Quinn; 3.5/5* - Generally I love this series. I think for the most part the heroines are strong and not door mats, though in this case Francesca kind of got on my nerves after awhile. Too much "Should I? Should I not?" between her and Michael. But still a fun read!
Mine Til Midnight by Lisa Kleypas; 3.5/5* - Another fun historical romance and part of a popular series. There are some aspects of the behavior of the men in these books that grate a bit against my 21st century feminist opinions on relationship, and this one had few scenes where I just wanted to the heroine to tell her love interest to STFU. But it was still enjoyable as a whole.
Currently Reading: Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley - I'm almost finished with this one. I'm not sure I really love it and the main characters are kind of obnoxious. I really love the two characters in the subplot much better.
QOTW: We loved playing Trivial Pursuit when I was a kid! Nothing like a general knowledge trivia game to get a couple of geek sisters rattling their brains at each other. LOL!
Since last Friday I have read: The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2) by Holly Black 2 stars/ YA fantasy This was so disappointing!! I'll stop this series here.
An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks 4 stars/suspense More entertaining than suspenseful, but I enjoyed this more than the author's previous book The Wife Between Us
One Day in December by Josie Silver 4 stars/romance I've never wanted an epilogue so much, but I still liked this book despite the very delayed gratification of it.
This week I read: Class Mom - Laurie Gelman - it was ok.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid - I think I first heard about this one from this board, thank you! I didn’t think I would really like a fictional Hollywood tell-all, but this book was really good.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - J.K. Rowling - I’m 20-some years late to the party, but I finally read a Harry Potter book! It was some nice quality time with my older daughter.
QOTW: Another longtime Scattergories fan here! I also liked spinning the wheel on Life.
I’m working my way through 4 3 2 1. I’m listening to Barking to the Choir and DS1 and I are reading a YA for his battle of the books, Running Out of Time. This is sooo good, it’s older but came out after I was out of the age range, I would have loved it then too, there is a suspenseful ending of each chapter. I’m impressed with it for sure.
I played a lot of sorry and uno as a kid. I also liked Chinese checkers ETA: we also had a game that I loved that I just remembered, Mustery Mansion. You designed the mansion as you want and had to find the treasure and carry it out of the house. It appealed to my sense of suspense and my design/architecture side!
I read: Save Me the Plums by Ruth Reichl Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han Me for You by Lolly Winston The Principles of Uncertainty by Maira Kalman

I finished Assaulted Caramel, which was good, but the sleuth figured out who the murderer was with clues that were not presented to the reader and I really dislike that. The book was a fun, easy read otherwise.
I started All Fudged Up, but life is getting in the way. It's been a craptastic week and I have been interrupted overtime I tried to read my book since Wednesday.
QOTW: I LOVED Clue as a child. I still do. It's always the game I vote for on game night. We also had a game called 221B Baker Street that I loved playing as a kid.

I’m between books now.
QOTW: I’m my family’s undisputed Clue champion
How was it?
I liked it! It was an odd format (it’s all interviews) but it worked.
A Discovery of Witches -I ended up giving this 4 ⭐️ and I’ll probably read the next one, but I did not buy the romantic relationship at all.
I also read the Binti trilogy by Nnedi Okorofor (man, my autocorrect did not like that name - lol). They’re afrofuturistic novellas for young adults and I really enjoyed all three.
Just started An American Marrage.
QOTD: I hated board games when I was a kid because my family played all the time and they were poor sports when they won. I finally stopped buying into their competivness and now I love playing. Sorry is probably my favorite because even the little one can play.
This week I read: The Winter of the Witch, Katherine Arden, 5* - a great finish to a really good series. Hunger, Roxane Gay, 5* - my work addresses sexual violence, so this book was not easy for me (reading is my escape, so it is a subject I tend to avoid), still, I found it compelling and so powerful. Milk and Honey, Rupi Kaur, 3* - I am don't usually read poetry, but it was quick. I liked the final section the most.
Currently reading: The Age of Miracles, Karen Thompson Walker - end of the world (or a changing world), love this stuff! Educated, Tara Westover - just got my copy Friday for IRL book club
QOTW: I liked Clue ( had a version with a VCR tape to highlight the mystery!) and a Monopoly like game named after the town I lived in.
It's now Monday - I keep trying to get in the habit of reading this board and I always forget! I wasn't on the boards much this weekend anyway, I guess.
It's been a good reading week for me. Last week I finished reading Kindred, by Octavia Butler. It was pretty gripping and I thought it was a very good book.
I'm currently just about done with The Book of the Unnamed Midwife, by Meg Elison. I'm reading it for my book club, and I blew through it super fast. It's yet another "a plague hit and killed almost everyone so now the main character has to survive" book, of which I've read many in the last few years, but at least this one doesn't involve zombies It's an overdone genre I think but I still seem to always enjoy this sort of book. It was definitely a page turner, I probably spent 3 hours reading yesterday!
I also just finished watching the TV series "You", so I started re-listening to "Hidden Bodies". I bought the audiobook a few years ago but forgot most of the plot (though some is coming back to me now). I'm doing a data entry project at work that is very boring, so an audio book helps keep me focused and actually working on it.
QOTW: Clue was and is my favorite! H and I still make people play it with us whenever we can lol. My family really loved playing Life and battleship together too.
