I am currently on my second garmin, a 735xt that is almost 3 years old. When I bought it, I did the research and garmin was still much better for GPS, HR, and other metrics.
Now, my garmin is getting a little cranky. The app crashes regularly and has to be reinstalled every few weeks. The HRM gets a bit fussy (yesterday it showed resting rate of 77, max HR of 83, even though RHR is usually just below 50 and I went for a short run. I know how to fix this with a hard reset, but it’s still annoying). And the strap needs replacing.
so.. should I fix ‘er up and keep on going? Or buy an Apple Watch? (I kind of want an Apple Watch, but I’m afraid it won’t measure up for fitness use). I use it primarily for running (outdoor and TM) and hiking, would love an altitude measure thingy which my 735 does not have.
do you have one? Want one? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have an AW 4 and I'm really pleased with it. Cold weather has kept me tethered to a treadmill so I've only used the watch's built in workout app. I'm hoping it plays nicely with my favorite running app when I head outdoors this spring.
My dh got me one at the end of spring. Personally as a runner I missed my garmin.
II do like being able to control what I’m listening to from my wrist. I was running with my Garmin and my iPod shuffle before, but I definitely prefer controlling things from my watch. However the watch just isn’t as accurate as I’d like. I just didn’t find an app I liked that gave me all the data I wanted easily. On small runs around my neighborhood it was ok, but it completely let me down during a 10 mile race and was off by like 2 miles. After that I just couldn’t trust it for important runs. So I will use it just for short easy runs, but on longer runs/training runs/races I have to have my garmin.
The Apple Watch was a gift so it wouldn’t have been my first choice. I do like it ok as a smart watch to wear during the day. But I’ve never wanted/been into the fitness trackers. But I do like getting all my notifications/calendar alerts on my wrist.
It didn't work for me and I returned it and bought Garmin. I didn't like the touch screen and found I much prefer buttons on the side. I like data and it didn't give me all the metrics I was looking for at the time. Also, the battery life is not so great. I had to charge daily. I know people who use the Apple watch for running and it works for them, just wasn't for me.
