Hi! We're buying a house with granite countertops in the kitchen, and I'm trying to figure out how to keep them clean without damagin them.
When I googled, I got very contradictory advice. I like to do non-chemical cleaners when I can, i.e. vinegar and water, but again, some online things said YES, VINEGAR IS GRANITE'S BFF!! and others said OMG NOOOO! VINEGAR IS DOOM FOR GRANITE!!1!!1!
Anyone have actual experience with something that works on granite? Thanks!
I don't know about disinfecting, but my mother, who is a total cleaning freak, uses Gel Gloss, which you can get at Lowe's. It actually doesn't say it is for granite but her installer recommended it and it's been working great for years.
No don't use vinegar it is an acid and will etch your granite. All natural stone surfaces (granite, marble, travertine, slate, etc.) should only be cleaned with pH neutral cleaners. Anything else will slowly eat away at the surface. In harder surfaces like granite it will take longer for it to show but it's being damaged none the less. Some recipes for making your own cleaners mix baking soda in with the vinegar. If you get the proportions right the cleaner should technically be pH neutral and safe to use on a natural stone.
