Well, I’m going to try the Apple Watch for running and other workouts. I’m a bit hesitant about their GPS but a few online reviews by people who are data-obsessed (the5krunner, DCRainmaker) show that the 4 series is as good as or better at both GPS and HR than comparable models of gamin and other industry leaders. I was really surprised to read those reviews, but apparently there’s a big difference between the 3 and the 4 in terms of the HRM and GPS efficiency.
What really sold me on it is the cellular option. I have a giant phone that doesn’t fit in pockets but as a woman running alone, I want some way to be in touch with people.
With this, I’m basically breaking up with Garmin. Garmin has worked well for me for about a decade now, so part of me is really hesitating, but I think the Apple Watch will do more and let me keep doing the fitness stuff with the same data I currently use. I’ll let you all know how it works.
now, the important question: Nike+ sport model in silver? Or regular model in rose gold (with the sport fabric band)? Apparently the only difference is that the Nike version has a few different watch faces and more sport apps pre-installed. Basically the choice comes down to: gold or silver. Which one would you get?
I’d do gold because that’s what I wear more and I can always install the other apps myself.
I’m curious to hear how it works for you. I’m really considering it, but I would miss my Fitbit day-to-day history. I’m not a big enough runner to really need anything fancier than my runkeeper app so a sport specific watch is unnecessary for me.
Well I ended up going with the Nike silver with the “celestial teal” sports band. The gold is super pretty but clashed with my freckles
So far, it’s pretty good. I’m at less than a day of this, but I think I like the options. It’s a better smart watch than my garmin 735, but I haven’t run with it yet. That’s on the list for tomorrow, so I’ll report back once I take it out for a test drive.
I love my apple watch. I like that my music is on there so I don't have to carry my phone. I also like the cellular option. The fitness tracking has been insanely motivational to me. I have been pushing so much harder in my workouts.
