I'm having trouble settling on a dining table for the eating area in our new family room--this is a casual eating area right off of the kitchen and we will eat most meals there.
My interior design suggested a stone top table from Room & Board (it's the 60" with the white base/marbled white quartz top) and it's beautiful and it checks a lot of the boxes for what we wanted: -oval shaped (I like oval tables and that shape works well in our room) -very durable surface -clean, modern look
But it seems a little...I don't know...cold? I haven't had a stone stop dining table before. Also, I'm not sure if we're cool enough for this table, lol. It's such an iconic style (though this one is not authentic) I have this "we're not worthy!" mind set imagining my kids getting markers and spaghetti sauce all over it.
Here is basically everything for the room...what do you guys think? I love looking at all of this and coming up with ideas, but actually having to commit to a purchase is so hard!
eta: we're not doing the aqua coffee table. still working that out, too.

Honestly, I would not get that table with young kids, just because of the heavy top and the unstable base. It look dangerous to me. Or I would at least go see it in person and see how easily it would tip over if knocked into.

It's funny, when I saw your subject line but before I clicked, I wondered if you were thinking about getting the Origami Coffee Table from West Elm. It has a stone top and I think it would look great in your space. (ETA: I guess it's actually inlaid bone tile but it has a nice similar look to the stone you posted).
dr.girlfriend , we looked at the walnut-topped version of this the last time we were at R&B and it did seem quite sturdy, but the stone is much heavier, so that's a good point. And my kids are young, but at ages 7 and almost 10, they aren't quite in quite as much peril with heavy furniture as they used to be. but yeah, I definitely want to go look at it in person!
I have a R&B white quartz top table (natural steel 4 Square leg base). It is cold...and indestructible. It’s awesome. My kids can’t ruin it...lol. We have the same thing in coffee table version too. Also I have several pieces similar to your vignette. Gray sectional, Eames molded chairs, wood console...Lol.

I love it. I have a similar coffee table (but Formica top instead of stone) and a similarly shaped pedestal table as our kitchen table, and the kids have never knocked them over. Pedestal tables are such a classic look, and they give you so much more room to squeeze in chairs because there are no legs getting in the way.
