I had one last month. I got antibiotics for it, but since most are viral and they never actually tested me to see if it was bacterial or not, I avoided the antibiotics and instead stuck to OTC meds my doc said were safe, because once you start antibiotics you need to do the entire course. I relied on Sudafed 24-hour for a few days (the one with the active ingredient that my doc said was safe - there’s another version I was told to avoid). I also took a few doses of Tylenol to alleviate tooth and jaw pain, which is a common symptom of sinus infections due to all the pressure.
You can also use things like a Neti-pot, but if you do that make sure you sterilize the water before using it, and sterilize it thoroughly after. It’s extremely rare but you can get water with brain-eating microorganisms in it and it can kill you if you don’t sterilize the water first. This actually happened to one woman in the Seattle area who used a Neti-pot, so while it seems ridiculous to say that it apparently does actually happen.
turbo Neti-pots scare me. I feel like I would drown myself, lol. Not to mention the brain-eating bacteria.
I'm going to try the Sudafed and Tylenol combo to see if it helps. I'm so miserable right now.
Yes. Hot steam showers followed by cold crisp night air. Saline for nose. Used jade roller around forehead, eyebrows, cheeks. Half a Tylenol to relieve pain and headache. It’s the worst!
I haven't yet (just a cold that I treated with Sudafed) but my sister did last winter when she was very pregnant with my nephew. She tried managing with a neti pot but it wasn't until her OB put her on antibiotics and Sudafed that she was able to get some actual relief. Being sick while pregnant SUCKS.
Oh no, I’m so sorry! I had one last spring, when I was pregnant with B, and I was miserable. I honestly can’t remember if they gave me antibiotics, but what really helped was a Neil-Med sinus rinse. I’d never used anything like a Neti pot before, and was super intimidated, but this provided instant relief. I even ordered it by amazon now because we were in Seattle on a long weekend trip. I used it 3x/day until it cleared up.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
-hot steamy shower twice a day (make sure to put lotion on right after so you don’t get itchy dry skin) -Saline spray after the shower -Tylenol + a cup of coffee to help the sinus headache -I took Sudafed a few times but I felt really weird so I stopped
Thanks ladies. I called the doctor last night to see what I could take and she said Allegra, a saline nose spray and Tylenol. So we'll see if that helps at all.
Yea, twice. Amoxicillin and twice daily sinus rinses (the aforementioned NeilMed, I like the squeeze bottle for new users) cleared it up both times.
I already take antihistamines, sudafed, and flonase daily for prevention/maintenance, so antibiotics are indicated for me as soon as I see color in my snot. I still do the sinus rinses when I have some congestion, although I've upgraded to the sinugator (battery powered, more forceful rinse).
Yes, I had one for nearly a month over the course of December and January. I understand how terrible it is, especially when there are only so many meds you can take!
I took Tylenol and went through so many boxes of tissues. I used a diffuser some nights and made sure to take hot showers before going to bed. Also, I rested as much as I could when I could.
So if I were to try a Neti-pot, which one is good? Mushepooh8402
I dont care for neti pots since they're passive and don't clear as much of the sinuses.
This is the one I recommend, the squeeze bottle: shop.neilmed.com/Products/Sinus-Rinse You can find it at pretty much any pharmacy in the cold/allergy aisle.
I swear by a neti pot for prevention and treatment, plus cetirizine and Flonase seasonally to prevent (and obviously during). I'm unfortunately really prone to them, regardless of pregnancy status.
