I know we’ve discussed the concept of this administration overwhelming the news cycle resulting in so many fellow citizens’ increasing apathy, so not to belabor the point, but yesterday was pretty huge & NBC News lays it out well: Ethically challenged: Three scandals rock Trump administration in one day www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/ethically-challenged-three-different-scandals-rock-trump-administration-one-day-n973461 ... Any one of these stories would have dominated the news — for days and weeks — in any other administration. But in our current era, it was just Tuesday.
Also on Maddow last night, she said she is working on a special report episode that will show that SDNY is planning on going against the DOJ guideline of not inditing a sitting president. She said they are working on it and it should be out this week.
"United States Donald J. Trump via Twitter @realdonaldtrump The FAKE NEWS media (failing nytimes, @nbcnews, abc, @cbs, @cnn) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!
18 February 2017[22]
On February 17, 2017, President of the United States Donald Trump declared on Twitter that The New York Times, NBC News, ABC, CBS, and CNN were "fake news" and the "enemy of the people".[23] Trump repeated the assertion on February 24 at the Conservative Political Action Conference, saying, "A few days ago I called the fake news the enemy of the people and they are. They are the enemy of the people."[24][4] At a June 25, 2018 rally in South Carolina, Trump singled out journalists as "fake newsers" and again called them "the enemy of the people."[25][26] Some commentators linked these comments to a mass shooting at the offices of a newspaper publisher in Annapolis, Maryland, that took place only days later, on June 28.[27][28][29] On July 19, 2018, following the critical reaction to his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 15, 2018 in Helsinki, Finland, Trump tweeted "The Summit with Russia was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media."[30] The New York Times noted Trump's use of this phrase during his "moments of peak criticism" and use of the term by Nazi and Soviet propaganda.[31]
On August 2, 2018, after Trump tweeted "FAKE NEWS media... is the enemy of the American People",[32][33][34] multiple international institutions such as the United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights criticized Trump for his attacks on the free press.[35] On August 16, 2018, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution affirming that the media is not "the enemy of the people." This came several days after more than 350 media organizations editorialized in opposition to Trump's frequent attacks on the press. The resolution, which "Reaffirm[ed] the vital and indispensable role the free press serves," was seen as a symbolic rebuke to Trump. It passed by unanimous vocal assent, in which the votes of individual Senators are not recorded.[36]
In an action that may have been connected with Trump's comments, it was reported on August 29, that a California man was charged with one federal count of "making threatening communications in interstate commerce" for calling the newsroom of The Boston Globe 14 times between August 10 and 22, calling the newspaper the "enemy of the people" and threatening to kill reporters. In his call on August 16, the man was accused of saying "You're the enemy of the people, and we're going to kill every fucking one of you. ... I'm going to shoot you in the fucking head later today, at 4 o'clock."[37][38] On December 9, Trump tweeted, "The Trump Administration has accomplished more than any other U.S. Administration in its first two (not even) years of existence, & we are having a great time doing it! All of this despite the Fake News Media, which has gone totally out of its mind-truly the Enemy of the People!"[39]"
That would be my guess. Although they may have lacked confidence for a while now in Mueller being able to finish his investigation properly because of all of #45 and his administration's shenanigans. So it's also possible that this is not actually a new development. There are so many moving parts it feels impossible to gauge correctly.
This is pure conjecture, because I'm thinking through this... Mueller hasn't indicted Jr. or anyone else, because if he does his investigation is shut down. Immediately and permanently. There's been a lot of back and forth about protecting the investigation, but nothing concrete has come from it. So... he's held off on any further indictments so that he can finish his investigation. Once it's released, the indictments roll in for those closest to 45. Too far fetched? Could this happen?

I think that's exactly what's happening. As soon as any of the big players are indicted, things are going to get wild. Mueller isn't stupid, he knows he needs everything laid out entirely so no one can subvert the findings.
For some reason that tweet is even more striking to me than his others. It's just very... direct, I guess.
I thought the same thing. It's not just accusations of "fake news". I can't articulate why but it's so much more threatening.
Daniel Dale reported this morning that it's the first time 45's "enemy of the people" threat has been directed at a single news entity. I do think that makes it feel more serious

Yes. Like I’ve said before, the kids won’t go down until the very end for this reason. At least that’s been my working theory for quite some time.
