I'm turning 40 in April and DH and I are talking about going away for a long weekend. We want to go somewhere warm, with either a pool or a beach and plenty of stuff to do. Price is a consideration (seeing as we are either moving or remodeling this year).
We were looking at Palm Springs but the hotel prices are insane. We found decent prices for Las Vegas or Austin, which we are considering. Anywhere else that we should look in to? We don't want to do a cruise and were trying to stay within the US.

Risking sounding like an ass but have they recovered from the hurricane to support tourism yet? I honestly haven't done any research so no idea what it's like today.

From what I've read the main tourist areas especially San Juan are back and eager for tourists - and have been for a while. Residential areas are still struggling, but tourism is an important industry and they need the visitors. That's not to say that you'll be slumming it in order to do them a favor. I've heard the tourist infrastructure in the main areas are back and as good as ever.
There are posters on GBCN from PR and with families there. If you're interested I know they'd be happy to chat more. I'm just a fan of the island but they can give you better insight.

Palm Springs may be pricey if you're looking to go during Coachella. We found that out a few years ago when we were considering going for our kids' spring break. So check the Coachella dates and if you have flexibility try to avoid that time. You may be able to find better prices.

Well, that explains it. My H has been to Palm Springs before and loved it. He nearly died when he looked at the hotel prices and said "I don't know happened but they were NOT this expensive when I went." Of course, Day 1 of Coachella is my birthday. Whomp whomp. Thanks for the tip, though, as we will keep that in mind and probably go another year. We just thought for some reason Palm Springs got insanely high priced

We're going in 3 weeks. Many things are up and running, and they seem like they are welcoming tourism.

What about Arizona? It’s basically the other side of Palm Springs.
Charleston is another option similar to New Orleans.
San Diego — though the water will likely be cold if you were hoping to go in the ocean. OC beaches and Santa Barbara are also lovely but same problem. Napa/Sonoma? (You’d probably want a heated pool in any of those places, but the weather should be a very comfortable 60s/70s.)
