Sixty days from this moment, I hope I will be firmly done with my 2nd Ironman. (I don’t even know what time it starts). I guess this means I should actually book my flight. :-)
I thought I would feel a flutter of panic last week when Training Peaks went in to the single digits. 9 weeks! I didn’t. This week, when it flipped to 8 weeks? Yeah. Shit got real. Because it’s 8 weeks to the event, but that 8 weeks is going to include an honest to god taper. Which I didn’t get last time. So now I’m just a little fearful as to what exactly the next month holds. And how I’ll handle traveling for a conference during one of the peak build weeks.
Hey. I’ll get to see a lot of Boise as I swim and run around it.
Training is going really well though. A small hiccup here and there, but it’s so vastly different from last time when I felt like every workout sucked from Muncie on. And I cried. A lot. I haven’t cried at all this time. Not even last week when I totally bonked my long run. It was more like an initial moment of panic and then “Shit happens, here’s why it happened, let’s learn from it and move forward.”
Imagine that. A coach that is teaching me things. What a true joy. Seriously. So even though I’m nervous for the weeks ahead, a separate part of me is like “You got this.”
Questions and share time?
- I lied, not a question. You need to share your brushes with athletic royalty from this weekend and today with the class
This weekend, women’s B1G swimming and diving championships were held at the pool I train in. And I got to watch Olympic gold medalist Lilly King break the American record, B1G record, pool record, and become the first women ever to go sub- :56 in the 100 breast. It was majestic.
Then today, I had former NFL Pro Bowl DE and team captain of the 2006 Super Bowl going Chicago Bears Adewale Ogunleye as a guest speaker in my class. Besides being a super nice guy and an amazing human, he said he wished my class had been available to take when he was in school. I nearly died.
- What's your favorite day coming up in your training calendar?
Lolololololol rest day, duh!
Actually, I really like my speedwork workouts. I couldn’t get through this week’s without walking, but my intervals were kind of awesome for me.
- What's for breakfast tomorrow?
Greek yogurt and the banana muffin I never sent you this morning.
Questions for you:
Where are you in your running shoe cycle? Is your current pair going to last until TX?
What’s been your worst chafe so far of this training cycle? :-)
