I have always had this fear of getting lice.
Every time I get my hair cut, I'm always afraid they will freak out and say I have lice. Then, I wonder how much they encounter and how they react to it.
So, what do you think a barber/hair stylist would do if they found lice in your hair?

One flea in your hair could be a fluke. It seems awfully extreme to freak out over one. If there were a whole slew of them, that's different, but just one? You could have just pet a dog a moment before and it got on you.
(sorry you were a dirty kid - I was, too, but mostly by choice. I was a big time tom boy.)
I know my babysitter told my mom once I had fleas in my hair as a 1yr old or something. We had an indoor-outdoor kitty and she was my kitteh-mama...she let me put my heavy ol' baby head on her and use her as a pillow!
I had lice in 3rd grade that I caught from another girl. It was awful, mainly because my hair is thick but fine, and at the time was halfway down my back. Mom spent HOURS combing my hair and my neck was killing me. She said if it ever happened again, she would cut my hair to my shoulders first before coming. Blessedly, it didn't happen again!
I don't think lice is common in first world, clean adults...unless your child caught it at school and passed to you. No need to be so fearful!

Well, they probably have to know what it is/looks like if they're dealing with hair all the time, and especially if they do kids cuts. I think they'd probably finish your cut and recommend you go see your doctor. If they were immature/inexperienced, they might freak out. LOL

DH grew up in an absolutely disgusting house. The two times I have been to see his mother I feel like I must strip and shower immediately. (Shudder). Thankfully he was adopted by his great aunt and uncle when he was 8. He remembers having lice ALL the time and also being able to see them crawl around his stepsisters head, just by looking at her, not for them. We also washed our hair after leaving and checked it for days after. UGH!! Ick ick ick... Makes me grossed out jsut thinking about the place. Oh! Last time we were there his sis had a five DAY old baby in the filth and they were smoking inthe house with all the windows shut. Poor, poor baby.
