Anyone have any fun plans for Mardi Gras (did I miss that?), St. Patty's day, or Easter?
Well obviously I have none for Mardi Gras since I don't even know when that is. The scouts are in the parade for St. Patty's day which is the 9th, so we will do that. I need to avoid the city the weekend of the 16th/ 17th because it's a drinking holiday. I think we were there one year after DS had his tonsils out. We went shopping and for pizza at 6 pm so not late, and everyone was wasted. Like 20 somethings waxing on about my kids being cute while stumbling at a pizza place, not a bar, at 6 pm.
I really wanted to do an Easter event this year, but we are out of town for spring break then SIL's wedding reception #3 the following weekend. WTF, 3 wedding receptions, and that is the 5 hour drive back to where the in-laws live. We already had to fly out to her wedding, rent a car, and pay for a cabin in September. I wish I could just send DH and the kids... Anyway, maybe we will fly there, but ironically the points were a lot for that area and then we still have to rent a car and drive an hour.
Then I work the following weekend, and then it is Easter weekend. So I think I need to review that and see if there is anything I can do.
We had our King Cake during a week I worked out 5 days so I could eat King Cake. If you can find one, you don’t need to understand Fat Tuesday to enjoy the treat.
Hitting a New Orleans parade for St Patrick’s - we always take them to the Quarter and they have been in the big drunk crowds there since stroller age. I grew up doing it and turned out fine.
I think I'm hosting Easter for my parents and siblings. ExH has the girls that weekend and I get them starting at 9 am on the actual holiday. Will do some kind of ham dinner and an egg hunt in the yard. Nothing crazy.
Hosting easter this year, for the food allergy crew. We will have ham and eggs, and I need to think about what else still. One of my colleagues has a St. Patrick's day corned beef dinner each year, I need to convince DH to do.
We don't do anything for St. Patty's day now that we have young kids and it's cold here.
Easter weekend is usually split with my side and then going to DH's parents' house. I'm usually in charge of the egg hunt at my Mom and Dad's and I love it! DD1 has a severe food allergy so it's easier if I take the reigns with the candy.
DS2's bday is the day after St. Patrick's, so we're having a small family bday party for him at our house on St. Patrick's Day.
Easter will probably be at my house with my family. My dad is in charge of filling the eggs with candy and money. He color codes them per grandchild and has a master list since there are 10 grandkids to keep track of. He also has a special set of eggs that every grandchild selects 1. There is money in them, but one egg has a $20 in it. While he is allowed to fill the eggs, he's not allowed to hide them, since he can't remember where he puts them. So my brothers and I take care of that. I love watching the kids run around to find their eggs.
Easter with the in-laws will be on another day around that. We always celebrate holidays with them on a different date since SIL spends the holidays with her in-laws.
I’m married to a Finnish-American, so we celebrate St Urho’s Day the day before St Paddy’s day. Hilariously, St Urho is a fictional saint invented so Finns could start drinking beer a full day before the Irish did. (I’m not kidding. Finns are... colorful.)
For Easter, everyone comes to our house. We will have an egg hunt and eat ham and good stuff like deviled eggs.
We are Irish and I host a st pattys party just like we used to do when we were young. Only my grandmother made a home cooked meal, and I Work FT.
For many years I did corned beef and cabbage bc it’s easy in the crockpot and I can do the cabbage real quick in an hour before Family arrives after work.
This year, I had high hopes for my evite and I created a lot of rhymes, and we are having a “bash” so I threw in bangers and mash and now I am having regret bc I have to figure out how to cook that.
