Ds failed his growth test. Next step MRI and then daily HGH shots. DH is already freaking about the money. I pray insurance pays just like anything else. Anyone that will shell out tens of thousands for a truck can suck it up and pay monthly for their kid. I just hope it's more like a couple of hundred not close to $1000, because then we will have to figure something out.
Ds is unfazed. I think he Hope's he will shoot up a couple of inches soon. Hes more worried about his speech next week.
So I am in my room with dd, dressed in my housecoat about 9 last night. We live on a curvy country road with about 9 houses. Dh comes running down the hallway saying police cars just passed with lights. So we both go to the window and watch them go up a deserted lane between 2 of my neighbors. I text my neighbors to see what is going on. 2 more police and an ambulance go by.They text that they are chasing 2 guys, now on foot who also stole a car. So I am Oh Shit! And start running checking doors in a pink housecoat wondering why I have 5 outside doors. We see flashlights behind the house and Dh is running from one window to another. They catch one guy and then the other guy starts screaming for help because he is stuck in a creek at the back of our properties.
Come to find out, this may he a guy that asked me to prom 25 years ago. I told him my mom said no, he was a little scary then. Last time I saw him he was running down the sidewalk chasing some girl outside a bar about 15 years ago.
OMG rere! That's scary. Also....what exactly is a housecoat? A robe?
We have to have our house tented for termites so they don't continue eating it and compromise the structure. Apparently that's a normal thing in SoCal. Has anyone had to deal with that? We have to be out of the house and do this giant list of things like remove every edible item and all plants/other living things, as well as mattresses. I'm getting a pod for the driveway to shove as much as I can in. Luckily we're doing it when we were already going to be on a short vacation, so at least the timing works out. I really don't need this in my life in addition to work and kids! Plus the tenting+pod+repairing some wood damage the termites did to the trim on the house is super expensive.
I'm allowed to stop wearing the boot on my foot tomorrow - it's been 6 weeks since my bunion surgery. It feels really weird to walk around without it. I feel like I need to learn how to walk again, even though I'm getting around fine and still exercising on the elliptical and driving and everything in the boot.

Lol yes. In my area, we call it a housecoat. A robe would be something silky and frilly. #regional.
Thanks k3am! I’m freaked out by fumigation chemicals 😬
They told us once the tent is gone and you’re okay to go back inside, if you really wanted to, you could lick all the surfaces in your house and be fine. I was super paranoid because I was pregnant... I didn’t lick anything though!
We did the all natural orange oil route the first time... because I was also pregnant with DD at the time. It smelled great but it left behind a lot of damage, didn’t kill the termites, and cost WAY more than tenting, even including the hotel stay.
Good to know k3am. I accept that we need to go the tenting route so that our house doesn't fall apart! But because the chemicals scare me, I do plan to get more stuff out of the house than I have to. We don’t have to pay for a hotel stay because we scheduled it when we were already going out of town, so I think I’m going to spend a few hundred bucks on a pod to throw in some couch cushions and pillows and what not - I figure it can’t hurt.
Insurance really should cover it and cover it really quickly. I’ve not heard of insurance not covering gh when you have a failed stim test. You probably have a specialty pharmacy listed on the back of your insurance card and could call that to find what drug and what your portion of the cost would be. Our choices are humatrope and norditropin. Norditropin is easier to administer and handle so we were approved for that first, and won’t switch unless we have a problem.
We just received DS’ norditropin last night and are beginning shots tomorrow.
You also might talk to your endo about drugs to delay the bone fusion that comes with puberty since your ds is older. That, I’ve read, has more chances of side effects (like bad temper is one) but if you don’t experience problems it’d probably be worth it to give yourself time.
Way to follow your instincts!!!
Edit: you obv have good instincts bc you could tell that guy was a creeper in hs! What a bananas story!!
DDOT - DH's bonus will be deposited tomorrow. We're going to use a little over half of it to pay off my car, which I am so excited about. Both of our cars will be paid off now, yay for no car payments! For the rest of the bonus, we give 10% of the gross amount as a tithe to church, and we'll use some to pay down our travel trailer and then put some in the kids' 529s and our e-fund. We were making double payments on my car, so now we can use that money to pay down the travel trailer more quickly, and possibly get it paid off by the end of the summer! Extra payments on the mortgage would come after that. I love getting debt paid off!
TWERK - DH's job: He said last week that they are pushing back the timing of letting people go now to late April or May. He decided he's going to apply for jobs that he wouldn't want to pass up in a normal situation, so he applied for a finance director job at the company I work for. (We have 30,000 employees, and he would work in a different business affiliate, so we wouldn't cross paths much at work.) He had a phone interview with the VP yesterday and he thought it went well. The VP initially told him he had a hard stop at 4:00, but they ended up talking for another 10-15 minutes (even when DH mentioned at a few minutes to 4:00 that he knew the VP had a hard stop and wanted to be respectful of his time), so we both thought that was a good sign. He should hear later this week or early next week if they want to bring him in for an in-person interview.

How much is the cost of the norditropin without insurance? We need to meet our deductible and then it should cover 80%. I have heard these horror stories of HGH being $5000 a month, on the internet of course, so 20% of that is quite a bit.
sdlaura, yay for getting the boot off! My surgery is in two weeks and I didn't even think elliptical was an option. Good to know! Are you wearing normal shoes on your other foot?
covergirl82, I like to pay off debt but DH usually wants to spend bonus money on "fun" things so we usually negotiate.
Twerk: The doctor called DH last night on DD1's ear culture. It came back as MRSA. He said the doctor was really relaxed about it and said that an antibiotic usually doesn't work and we need to put a topical cream on her ear. She was surprised by the results and wanted to make sure her ear looked better from last week. I'm in a panic after looking on Google - really scary stories on there about MRSA spreading to family members and turning into flesh eating disease, getting into blood stream and death. I think I'm going to call the doctor today to calm my fears. Anybody know anything about it? Google also tells me the skin should be covered and all bedding/towels need to be washed, etc. We are going away to a water park hotel this weekend - is that a no, no?
mellym, a few years ago DH got a handful of MRSA skin infections. He ended up on the some crazy antibiotics, and has been fine since. I got one once, when largely I hadn't been taking care of myself due to work insanity. It started like a big hard lump under my arm. I ended up on some crazy antibiotics, and then it burst and started draining, which was incredibly gross. Now it is healed up, and I have small scar. We are both alive and well. MRSA skin infections are actually way more common than you would think.

1st, "cheaper" was supposed to be creeper.
2nd, rere , as I'm sure you've already figured, his dose is going to be higher b/c he's older/bigger, which of course will definitely be more expensive. I've read 1200 per month for norditropin but it depends on the dose . Whatever drug is your insurance co's provided drug will be provided by your pharmacy, but your endo should also send the drug company notification of the prescription.
You can then call that drug company. You'll have a case manager assigned to you whose job it will be to help you with copay/deductible assistance if you can qualify for that (as well as help you with in home demonstrations on how to do the shot etc). They want you to be able to take their drug so they can and do help with that. Humatrope has a copay card, norditropin has a program too. I'm not sure how hard they are to get.
If for some reason it's not approved, ocean breeze pharmacy is apparently the place that a lot of people who self pay go and they get the drug zomactin b/c it's cheaper. I've seen 600-1050 mentioned as prices and that difference probably has to do with the dose. Zomactin isn't as easy to use b/c it has to be reconstituted.
phdmomma, a basketball hit her in the ear and it started oozing pus and blood. It's still quite a big lump and the doctor didn't mention putting her on a different antibiotic. Thanks for the reassurance.

mellym, I tend toward more natural things, and I've read that Tea Tree essential oil is a good topical treatment for MRSA. Find a high quality essential oil, and then dilute 1 drop in a teaspoon of olive oil and apply to the area. I'd have to check into the appropriate number of applications a day, but I would guess 2-3 applications a day until it resolves. (And I liked your reply for the response to mine. I'm sure DH would prefer to use some for fun stuff, but he's been a good sport about paying off/down debt. It's our 15 year anniversary in 2021, so I did say that I'd be good with splurging that year and using some of his bonus (as long as he receives one) to go on a big trip (Hawaii or Ireland are our top choices) as a family.)
Person that was fired, boss wants her department under me. There is someone temporarily in there but she doesn't want to stay. She says there is not much work to do, which I believe. However, my boss wants to hire someone. But the boss of the temp person really doesn't and wants to fire another girl there because she thinks the work is not necessary. I mean it is necessary but not in the amount, like there is no reason why she can't get the work done in 1 day as opposed to 4 days type thing. I accepted out of boredom and wanting to do more, but part of me is wondering if I am stepping in it.
I don't really know where to start. Learning the content and hiring someone I guess. There is another person here who we could bring to full time and she could do 20 hours maybe there and 20 somewhere else, but I don't know. I think the other dept head wanted a lot of imput which is why she suggested her person, but that person does not want to stay in the position, so where does this get us- no where. Meanwhile she is spending all this time figuring things out for what purpose? To sit down and have a couple of meetings with us...
Any suggestions would be great. I guess you would call it a small re-org. Really not a ton of difference except there is another level between them and my boss instead of reporting right to my boss so he doesn't have to deal with their drama which was 99% the person that was fired, so hopefully much better. It's just a lot of unknowns. Maybe we need to be sitting down and having meetings on it.

Update: I'm writing a heartfelt letter to the montessori school letting them know we won't be re-enrolling. Although we've had serious problems with them, we've had great times with them too over the course of more than 6 years (!!!) and I kind of feel like crying. It doesn't help that this week we'll go to her classroom for her celebration of life (birthday thing they have).
mustardseed2007 , I know how you feel. We made the transition from daycare center to the aftercare/ pre-school program on site at the public school 1.5 years ago, and we had been there 7 years. It was very sad. I didn't even really have major problems with them. They are a center that takes infants through school age and are $$$$. The oldest had for the most part outgrown their program and space and was going to summer camp elsewhere anyway, and the other program was cheaper. It took a good 6 weeks for the kids to adjust and 6 months for maybe to finish the adjustment. Overall it was for the better since the pre-school program was more professional and their K wrap around program coordinates better with public K and cheaper, and closer to our house, but it was hard to say good bye.
Update: DD1 also has postules on her nose so thinks that's MRSA as well. Doc is prescribing a strong antibiotic and she can swim on Saturday. DD3 is also sick again. Finished antibiotic on Friday and she had pink, draining eyes on Saturday. She's getting worse so we are getting a script for a new eye drop. She has not been healthy for one day since Christmas and I'm exhausted. Daycare called and said she's really clingy and I might want to come get her. I really wish my work had a better WFH policy.
mellym, Poor little ones and poor you. I am going to sound like the daycare grinch here, but I wouldn't get DD3 unless I had to pick her up. I would just try to get work done. FYI on DD1, the postules may start to ooze eventually, and that's normal but super gross at the same time.
mellym, I also wouldn't rush to go get DD for being clingy. I did this one February when DD was 2. Daycare called she was just crying and no one could get her to stop and they wanted me to come get her since they couldn't calm her down. I throw a bunch of taxes into a bag and rush across town to pick DD. I walk in and she is sitting on the directors lap crying. She sees me, stops says hi mommy lets play and then walks me over to the kitchen area and starts playing. Director looked at me and was like she totally played us. After that I got really picky about rushing to pick up when she was needy.
mellym - when DD had MRSA she could not swim in pools per the doctor. It went away with some insane abx and steroids.
DH’s ex has had it for years and it’s in her bloodstream and she is still alive. They have said she would need 6 weeks inpatient care to get rid of it and it’s attacking her organs. You will know if it’s spreading - she has open, weeping sores.
DD has strep. I also had to take my mom to the doctor. Work deadlines didn’t move as a result of sick kids - I am beyond stressed. Layer in that DH is in Chicago experiencing some kind of existential crisis that involves our marriage and I am really on the brink of losing it. Like, total freaking breakdown on the horizon. Like, if I had a Xanax I would hire a sick sitter overnight and not even care about the cost and go pass out for 16 hours.
And my boss keeps saying stuff like "if you're not feeling well, just stay home" in the same conversation that he's trying to get status updates on why a ton of things haven't been done yet.
He's also not liking my pushback on stuff. Please, STOP signing me up for high volume/low reward work.
DD just called me sobbing from aftercare. She left her gym bag in my car this morning. I told her she has a extra leotard in her backpack and she said she found that and changed there but she has NO FOOD, crying hysterically. I told her to ask R since she was using her phone if she could get an extra cheese stick and I would call grandma and see if she would grab her a snack to eat on the way. She was calm before I hung up. Her own little emergency.
It is also snow on the valley floor and sticking everywhere. I can't have another snow day! I'm so stressed at work right now. We have a client who had another shareholder die and it was a family relation and things have been bad. Lots of lawyers and fighting but it was finalized back in July. Well the estate is causing havoc and basically the lawyers are throwing us under the bus. We fired the client today and he didn't take it well and is trying really hard to change our mind. Not the extra stress we need right now.
mellym, I’m pretty sure the elliptical is not supposed to be an option . I decided that I was still following the instructions of not putting any weight on my foot without the boot. I just loosened the calf part and kept the boot on.
I would say for the first 2.5-3 weeks after surgery it still hurt if I did anything other than normal walking. But around that point I started driving and doing the elliptical in the boot and it was fine.
Yep, I just wore whatever normal shoes I would normally wear on the other foot.
Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with the surgery!

I am still fighting with Benefit Wallet. It’s a very one-sided fight since I haven’t gotten anyone on the phone. I kee resubmitting docs and they keep approving bits and pieces of my childcare expenses. I am meeting with the business manager of the preschool to get them to basically write up that DD2 is not school aged. I’m annoyed with him as well because I requested this documentation in January and it took him 2 months for him to get it to me.
I accepted a board position on a professional development group. I anticipate having regrets. But maybe I won’t!
