How long after landing should I make my Blue Lagoon reservation? I’m landing at 6:20 on a Friday if any of that matters. Also, we’ll be renting a car if that makes a difference.
also, how long did you spend there? If it makes a difference, I’ll have elementary aged kids w me.

We didn't go to the Blue Lagoon because there are others that are a lot less pricey. However, I did look into it and it's about 15 minutes away. The car rental we reserved was off property and took a little bit to get to. If you're checking luggage that will take more time. I think I would do three hours after landing if you checked luggage otherwise I would do 2.

We also had an off-property rental car that we had to take a shuttle van to, and that took a little while. We landed at Keflavik around 4am, and I think we had our luggage and rental car and started driving to Reykjavik around 6, so 2-ish hours later.
We didn't go straight to the lagoon from the airport, and went on a different day. We had reservations at 9am, and I think we ended up staying until a little after lunch... about 4 hours or so. We didn't have any kids in tow though.
It's very close to the airport. I would give yourself some time, however, It took me a long time to get my luggage and then to get the rental car. I think we spent at least 3 hours at the lagoon, maybe longer. We went in the middle of our December trip and were lucky to see the northern lights while in the snow covered lagoon. I really enjoyed their facial scrubs, both of them.. You don't need to do the package that gives you flip flops. They don't matter and everyone kicks them off into piles anyway.
There were kids there when I was there. They were having fun swimming and playing.
Pibs, yes! As others mentioned, it's near the airport so it's easy to get to if you're having a layover at KEF (which, if you're going to Europe might be an easy way to sneak this in as flights from East Coast come in AM & a lot of flights to mainland Europe are in the afternoon).
Thanks everyone. I think I might err on 3hrs post landing. That way we'll likely have time to get some coffee before we go to Blue Lagoon.

It looks amazing! I didn't know about Icelandic layovers until after we'd already planned our last trip, but it's on the agenda for whatever we end up doing next.
I am late to this but wanted to add that we took our three kids who were 9, 7, and almost 4 at the time. We ended up staying about two hours before the younger two started complaining about being too warm.
