What would you do if you had an afternoon in Charleston to yourself? My husband and I will be visiting for three days, but he has a business lunch one afternoon and I'll be on my own, which sounds heavenly. I've never been there before, and I like architecture, history, and eating, lol. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have!

We did a walking tour one afternoon with Two Sisters Tours and it was a pretty good history/architecture tour of the area. I think it was roughly 2 hours and ended back at their historic family home with lemonade.
We also did the Aiken-Rhett House one afternoon and then pub crawled our way home. Lots of cool breweries and restaurants to hole up in.

I've done this tour as well and enjoyed it. I think it would be a good thing to do on your own.
If it is your first time, you could definitely do a tour. I think I would just meander down King Street and shop, look in art gallerys, pop in to the circular church and gets some snacks/drinks. A self-guided commerce tour if you will.
