Hi. It’s been quite a while since I posted, and wasn’t super frequent. I haven’t run much since running my one and only marathon in 2016 then finding out I have a disc issue in my lower back. I have been mainly doing things for fun, mainly kickboxing 3-4 times a week, running a 5K here and there, that kind of thing. I also suffered some significant losses in the last year, which has put me in a bit of a funk. Lately I have felt the urge to start running - really running - again. I am considering a half in early November, and thought I’d try heart rate training so that I have a fighting chance of getting through it healthy.
I know I’ve seen others try heart rate training. Will I have enough time to really train properly if I start now? I was considering doing the train like a mother programs to get me through. Has anyone ever tried those? Any and all advice is welcome. I honestly have never been this scared about running before, and am afraid I will psych myself out😞.

Hi!!! Welcome back!!
No thoughts really on HR training but I bet you’ll do great with it. I’ve been in a funk lately and haven’t been active on here for a while either. Hoping to get back into it.
I don't know what specific heart rate training you're talking about, but I love running with heartrate. I have a Forerunner 935 that seems to give decent HR readings for running. I don't necessarily look at it all the time, but knowing my heartrate during a run, particularly average and time in zones helps me put my runs into perspective. I used to run all the time before college, but then I switched sports and am really only coming back to it as of last fall.
My favorite thing about heartrate tracking is looking back at a run and going "wow, my heartrate was actually kind of high, so even though I felt slow and my pace wasn't great, this was good training". Otherwise it's easy to get discouraged.
When I did my first half I started from a base of 10k on July 4th, so I think you will have plenty of time to train properly if you start now.
I am a fan of heart rate training, even though I haven't ever used a specific program. It helps me especially during the summer when it is hot out. On hot days I know that if I pay attention to heart rate rather than pace I can still get in an easy run. I think it would be worth giving one of the Another Mother Runner plans.
