I have been struggling with wanting to work with kids again and jumped on a literacy initiative through United Way to work with failing schools and 2nd and 3rd graders on reading. We go and read to them and encourage reading through activities. Our first meeting is today and I am super excited!!!
I haven't been able to volunteer in a long time and the bank is totally covering my time off to do this, so I am double-dog excited.

I volunteered a lot for Army related things (obviously easiest and a cause near and dear to my heart). I usually run 2 or more races a year to raise funds for TAPS, Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors, which is for family and friends of fallen soldiers.
And we're looking into foster to adopt as an option in the next two years. We both like the idea of adopting a special needs child, but we have to get to a place in DH's career that's 100% secure, and that should be something we know within the next year.

I used to. I volunteered for about 4 years at a no kill animal shelter near me cleaning cages, feeding dogs and cats, and taking dogs for walks, and playing with the cats. We used to do a Whisker Walk every year and I'd help with the auctions. I also used to volunteer every year for the Jimmy Fund walk (was a team leader) at the one of the checkpoints. I used to work for the Jimmy Fund so it was easier to do that stuff. Also, decorating the kids play area for the Boston Marathon Dana Farber runners.
That is awesome. I would love to volunteer and do something for literacy. I am going to look into it.
I don't really volunteer a lot with much of anything which makes me lame. I volunteered a couple times to help with Race for a Cure and have done several philanthropic events for Breast Cancer Education Awareness and Research buuuuuuut those things come and go. I used to volunteer at the local pet shelter back at home.
I feel like I need to get up and doing something now.

I used to a lot before the kids, but there is no time now. I probably will once Lexi is in school. I have done some volunteering at schools and the Salvation Army for the food bank and helping take/sort donations.
